Commemorating General MacArthur's Inchon Landing...

On the 15th, in commemoration of the anniversary of the Inchon Landing, the Korean military re-enacted the battle. The re-enactment off the shore of Inchon featured an array of South Korean land, sea, and air equipment. The re-enactment gave me an idea how fierce the battle was.

The Inchon Landing, led by General Douglas MacArthur, cut off North Korean forces from their supply lines, which had extended deep into the southern part of the Korean peninsula. Soon after, allied forces liberated Seoul and pushed the North Korean forces back, and marked a turning point in the Korea war.

The war vets of Korea, US, and UN all expressed gratitude for the re-enactment ceremony.I believe that the Korean war was the stepping stone and the beginning of the good relationship between Korea and our country. I hope this relationship continues.

I agree. I salute all members of the coalition most of all the brave Koreans who made a stand for their own freedom and fought well. And they are still doing so.

Pity Douglas MacArthur never found out his brilliant strategy was under cut by a British Govt spy who told the Reds Truman gave his word to the Brits nukes would never be used. If not for that the entire peninsula would now live in freedom. An even larger testament of the courage of those who fought and died there.

MacArthur’s Inchon landing was a success. I haven’t read about what he knew about possible PRC intervention at the time which was a game changer. I believe he remarked ( not sure when)) that the USA should never get involved in an Asian land war. He might have recommended a nuclear response to the Chinese intervention. How that would have worked out, very interesting.

@sark, just friendly reminder. It's bit waste of time answering to thread that have been long dormant. Moreover the comments come from members that have been banned. Thus will not be able to continue the discussion.

I suggest if you want to talk on this issue of Korean Campaign, you can create new thread. Also if not mistaken there's still thread on military history campaign. Just to remind, the mods in here expect a thread starter to provide good base for new topic.

@sark, getting your post count up by spamming almost dead threads, with incoherent responses, has gotten Moderator notice; and not in a good way.

BTW, you can also start new threads if you want, but please consider put some effort in starting a thread, with 2 to 3 paragraphs and preferably with a reputable source (that is not Wikipedia), for others to think on. That way, people reading will appreciate the effort in educating others.

Leading by example, I recently wrote 2 posts to seed a new thread on UAEAF a very capable medium sized Air Force. Please see that as a reference example of seeding a thread to encourage responses.

You have gotten a
green text and red text warning by 2 Moderators, as the team escalates our concern with your behaviour. Multiple long time members have also provided guidance on adjusting your posting style, in multiple threads.

At a glance, your comment seems poorly reasoned and without links or sources to back up the controversial stance. Kindly consider taking the advice of other members and making minor adjustments. The tone seems to be off-colour trolling and the Moderators are giving you the benefit of doubt here.

Many thanks for your attention. No response to this post is necessary.

I don't have much time for MacArthur as a person. He had the Napoleon complex. A bit like Field Marshall Montgomery and a few others.

However his Inchon Landing was a brilliant strategy because it enabled the recapture of Soeul and threatened the cutting off of NK forces in the south of the country. The NKs had but one choice either loose the bulk of their forces or undertake a headlong retreat north, which they did. Then MacArthur chased them harrying all the way until his forces drew close to the Yalu River, which was to close for Mao Tse Tung. Mao sent over 300,000 PRC troops across the Yalu River and pushed the UN forces back to the 38th Parallel. I believe that MacArthur was unaware of Mao's intentions until it was to late, but he did what he was required to do.

Your criticism of MacArthur is ill-informed and undeserved. All you are doing is showing your ignorance which is unbecoming and bringing dishonour to the name of the USMC. If you are going to make such comments, ensure that you have the evidence and links to support such accusations.

.
Led by Dugout Doug, that's a little steep, the man kept as far away from combat as humanly possible during WW2 and Korea, he spent almost the entire Korean war in his office in Tokyo, from what I have read he never spent a single night in Korea for the duration of the war.

This is well worth reading, criticism of MacArthur's handling of the later stages in the Korean was is valid, ultimately his lack of understanding the bigger picture lead to his firing..

Interesting read, can’t help wondering if a similar hearing would be possible given the extreme partisan environment today, seriously doubtful IMO.

I don't think it could, politicians were much better at compromising back then and really weren't that far apart on the spectrum. Not so long ago the United States Senate confirmed RBG to the Supreme Court by a 96–3 vote, that's impossible today. The US is heading down a dangerous path which will not end well.
