The first steel has been cut on HMS Active, the second Type 31. Active has 11 predecessors, with the previous Active on active service in the Falklands War, one each in WW2 and WW1. The 1769 Active "... captured a prize of £100 million worth of Spanish treasure." That would've been great prize money for the crew.

I haven’t find any other images of the vessel. The wiki article states that it was indeed the greatest single amount of prize money ever awarded to a british crew. It was captured by the French in 1778, serving until 1794.

Beggars belief that the second shaft on PoW was faulty too apparently - that's like winning the lottery, taking your coat off to give to some homeless person and finding *another* winning ticket in an inside pocket.

QE is fine - which leads to the question as to why ? I believe the RN ordered a lot of long lead items in a single hit, part of a deliberate attempt to prevent them being easy to cancel.

The nick name for HMAS Perth, the last of the ANZACs, was HMAS Rotable Parts Pool. She got everything that had been returned to store because it was found to have issues on the earlier ships.

Bit more commentary from UK defence - pretty much says as above - we're trading labour costs, training the Polish on working on their own order etc.
