Not really. Firing missiles off at just random radar contact is very poor form. Not only is it generally ineffective, it is often a war crime.
More like driving a tank along a road. The road can carry cars, and a tank can also use it. Usually if you have tanks firing and things firing at tanks, driving a bus weaving in and out of tank column is pretty silly. But if you are sitting at a radar screen and just shooting at anything that is on a road, you don't know if your hitting civilians, enemy, your own team, decoys etc. China uses 737s.. Electronically a E7 should look very different to a regular 737, as regular 737 don't have MW MESA arrays the size of a bus on their roofs pumping out radar. But with long range munitions and long range aircraft your vectors are more numerous than just shortest possible distance between two points.
E7 and P8s already do FON flights. Same deal. You have to inspect the aircraft. Not just fire off missiles at any plane.
Its not 2000km, its 2000Nm. So nearly 4000km. Maybe further using internal payload space. I think its ideal for E7/P8 escort duties.

Its highly likely the larger MQ28 with larger wings, fuel and payload, could take off from a carrier or a LHD (at reduced payload). Still have more range than a F-35A.. So much range you could lilly pad them. Take off from a land base, land on a LHD, refuel, take off continue to another land base. Have some on the LHD itself organically. Give you huge situational awareness. Minimal demands on a carrier. No crew, no rescue helo in the air at all times.
MQ28 looks very much like its the ideal CCA for UK, AU, US, Germany and Japan. If all of those acquire it, thats potentially thousand of units. So MQ28 ops and integration will be a very big thing. But part of that is proving it not just with E7 control, but with fighter control from our existing F-18. It would make every existing seater 4th gen fighter very attractive. Euro Typhoon for Germany (30 odd examples all ready an no doubt more if MQ28 integrated and proven). F-15EX (perhaps replacing Japan's older F-15 2 seaters,48 of them). It would give forces a very useful reason to keep 4th gen fighters, F-35 is great, but is a single seat fighter, Also stealth but controlling other planes is a bit of a mission confusing. Its like having a stealth EW platform.
So an extra 6-18 Superhornets for Australia could support a much larger MQ28 fleet and operations, including with allies. For SEAD and naval strike, the F-18 is probably the ideal platform for Australia to control MQ28. MQ28:SH ratios could be 2:1 That would seem reasonable. So even a few airframes would lot of capability to the RAAF in that situation.
