I think we really need to look for a replacement for those three 737-2X9 Surveillers. At this moment they are already more than 40 years old, if Indonesia decides to order the P-8, those Surveillers will be more than 50 years old at the moment the P-8s are delivered. The best solution for all and Prabowo/Trump ego for eye catching deal is to get some Boeing E-7s.
Yes but I remain skeptical that anything will come out of it.Seems Prabowo going to choose Havelsan to work with DI on AEW&C. The platform can go from 737, Bussiness Jets or Turboprop like CN235.
Havelsan is a system integrator and have experience with Turkiye E-7 program. But DI is not very experienced or capable at this level.
There is also the question of the radar itself. If it is something new, say from Aselsan, the risk and cost will be even higher... For just a few (2, 3?) platforms. Not to mention how long this will potentially take.

Antaranews doesn't give any details....I have more confidence on potential deal for P-8 then E-7. Simply due to Boeing bring P-8 on their booth rather then E-7. Alltough TNI-AL so far hinted more on PAL P-6.
Busines Indonesia seems quote differently then Kontan on Airlangga Hartarto (Economics Coordinator Minister) on potential military equipment being included in Negotiation Nego Tarif Trump, Indonesia Siap Borong Alutsista hingga Pesawat AS. However so far they are the only one that quote on potential defense items deals, others including Kontan not mentioned that.
Still I suspect for Boeing Commercial that are being given more on deals, but not closed posibilities of Boeing military come out later on in negotiation.

i hope they can return the single EH101, to get some discount/cash back in exchange for the ordered AW189.
don't see the point to replace the Hawk Mk109/209 with the Aermacchi M346, and not the T-50/TA-50/FA-50.
Well, that thing still should have a value. Just "tukar tambah". I am sure Agusta-Westland can use the spareparts or even resell it as second hand. From what I gather that EH101 was not source officialy from Leonardo. That's why the procurement become corruption charges. Indonesia Goverment basically stuck with that EH101, as no other parties can be claim to recompensate the payment. You can't ask compensation from string of unofficial middlemen outside Indonesia.
Still this move with Leonardo at least confirm they are still looking for LCA. Previously the signal indicating LCA being replace by MRCA (in this Rafale).
One squadron of heavy fighters
Except that we have zero need for heavy fighters. Exactly what use are they in the context of Indonesia's air defense? Deep strike? Deep strike where? We are not an aggressor nation. We will defend our country, but a defensive posture can be better served by having more Rafale rather than a small number of heavy fighters. One squadron of heavy fighters, some squadrons of medium fighters (F-16 + Rafale) and some squadrons for light fighters to get the required amount of squadrons. It makes sense.
Yes, like i also said in post #3334, i don't see the point in adding the M-346 in the fleet.Except that we have zero need for heavy fighters. Even the need for light fighters are questionable, but well, we already have T-50 so adding TA-50 doesn't add an entirely new set of logistical challenge. But things like M-346? What niche does it fill that the Super Tucano or TA-50 can't?
The concept of heavy, medium, and light fighter is a Cold War relic that was maybe appropriate for the US and USSR back then but isn't really relevant for today's Indonesia. It's a shame that our armed forces are slow to adapt to the post-Cold War defense needs.
