Indian Defence Briefs on Helicopter Deal, Tank Production and Arjun Tanks,

Indian Ministry of Defence, Light Helicopter Deal with Eurocopter 
The purchase of light helicopters for the army is being processed under the Defence Procurement Procedure and an appropriate decision would be taken after following all the stages of procurement process. 

As such, no definite time limit could be given at this stage. The exact value of the procurement would be known only thereafter. 

This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri AK Antony in a written reply to Shri Amar Singh and Shri Abu Asim Azmi in Rajya Sabha today 
 
Defects In MBT Arjun 
Government has detected some major defects in the Main Battle Tank ‘Arjun’ during the course of its field trial. The main defects noticed during trials by Army were related to failure of piston rods of hydro pneumatic Suspension Unit, Gunner Main Sight & Gun Control System. 

These defects were noticed during the trials in 2005 and 2006. The cause of defects have been analysed and corrective action has been taken to eliminate the defect. Defect related to premature warning of Air filter of the engine fitted in MBT Arjun was noticed during the trial in 2005. 

The cause of the defect was analysed and rectified in consultation with the specialists from Germany, Belgium and France. The remedial measures have been implemented at the production stage. 

This information was given by the Minister of State for Defence Production Rao Inderjit Singh in a written reply to Shri Abu Asim Azmi in Rajya Sabha today. 
 
Production of T-90 Tanks 
Heavy Vehicles Factory has so far supplied 181 T-90 tanks to Army. No technical problems viz barrel bursting has been observed in T90 tanks. The problem of barrel bursting was noticed earlier in T-72 tank. The bursting of barrel in T-72 tanks occurred in barrels of Russian origin as well as of Indian origin. The problem was analysed in consultation with Russian experts and remedial action towards modifying the chemistry of material has been taken.
 
This information was given by the Minister of State for Defence Production Rao Inderjit Singh in a written reply to Shri A Krishna Swamy and Shri Kuldeep Bishnoi in Lok Sabha today.
