EADS, MUNICH, Germany: EADS and the Ministry of Defence of the Sultanate of Oman signed a follow-on contract to enhance the existing OFEQ2000 joint C4I system supplied by EADS. The system is to be extended to a total of twelve headquarters with 96 workstations, whilst also being updated and upgraded. EADS and the Sultanate of Oman continue together the successful cooperation of recent years.

It was back in 2001 that EADS installed the OFEQ2000 joint C4I system, based on its product JoCCIS, for the army, navy and air force of Oman. Originally the system comprised only five headquarters and 41 workstations. Following installation, it was successfully used for a combined exercise (Swift Sword II, involving both Omani and British personnel).

In 2005, EADS delivered and installed a training system and also upgraded OFEQ2000 to the present product status, which offers both English and Arabic interfaces. Officers from the different Services have been trained on the new training system and familiarized with the system.

The present contract will add seven HQ and 55 workstations. Also included in the contract are an update to the latest NATO MIP (Multilateral Interoperability Program) data model, an upgrade to Windows 2003 Server, Lotus Notes R7 and the Graphical Information System (GIS) Version 9.1 from the ESRI company. User management is also to be extended to include interfaces for receiving the recognized air picture (RAP) and the recognized maritime picture (RMP) from external systems. Finally, the present contract includes the presentation of common operation pictures (COP, ground, air, maritime) in the situation display plus replication of all the operational data between the individual headquarters.

The enhanced system will be used in February 2007 in a joint exercise involving all six Gulf states which are members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Training of the users is currently under way on the training system that was installed in 2005. For the purposes of the joint exercise, the OFEQ2000 system will be installed in the relevant headquarters, on ships and in desert camps. It is an ideal opportunity for the other interested Gulf states to experience the capability of the EADS system in an operational environment.

With revenues of about EUR 5.6 billion in 2005 and roughly 23,000 employees across nine nations, the EADS Defence & Security Systems (DS) division forms the defence and security pillar within EADS. As a Large Systems Integrator, it offers integrated system solutions to the new challenges confronting armed forces and global security. It portfolio includes battlefield management systems, manned and unmanned integrated combat and mission air systems, including related training services, missile systems and command & control systems for all branches, global security solutions, secure networks, defence electronics, avionics and sensors as well as systems processing the data, up to related services for the complete product/project/capability life cycle.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2005, EADS generated revenues of EUR 34.2 billion and employed a workforce of about 113,000.
