^ Rashtriya Rifles Commandos (main Indian paramilitary CI unit) stand by guns and amunitions seized from freedom fighters at the Rashtriya rifles camp in Lolab Kupwara, Kashmir. It's a rare pic because RR commandos are rarely seen in public as many of tasked with deep infiltration of terrorist units, and for this press conferance, many had their faces covered.
Who says RR Commandos are rarely seen? First of all there is nothing like RR commando in IA. RR personnels are same as other troops and infect most of the photos of Kashmir featuring Indian Army troops are of RR regts.

And for your information those covering their faces are not Army men. Infact they are VDC(Village Defence Committe) member or SPOs(Special Police Offrs). Look at their pants!!! Those are not olive green but Khakhi. These are basicaly volunteers who are fighting militants in valley under the supervision of armed forces.

They are covering the face as their identification can put them and their families in trouble by militants.

actually rashtriya rifles are not exactly pure army they are more like a millitia and can serve with both the army and the paramillitary forces, they were specially created to take over the antiterrorism responsibilities from the army and the bsf.:coffee

Thats right. Initialy RR units were raised by taking out troops from different regts ( also volunteers) like they use to take take troops from units for Brigade, Div or other formations. These RR regts does not have heavy equipments like mortars, RCLs etc and even they are exempted from some routine stuff of a army unit like PT, BPT, Morning and evening parade, cultural events etc.

These regts are controlled by Army but funded by Home Ministry.

But this hetrogeniuos mixture of troops from diff units were not that effective so it was decided and every regt was asked to raise and convert some RR battalions. Like 8 Sikh was converted to RR.
Now they have proved effectiveness BUT as they are operating same as police so they are less disciplined than regular Army units.

A whole new kind of formation structure has been errected for RR ops. You may find the details on bharatrakshak.
