I hope we can secure the program inshaAllah. Any way our currency is stronger now, Alhamdulillah, and that fact will make argument to lower KFX acquisition and decreasing our financial contribution become less rational and no basis. It is because their whole argument are all centered on weaker rupiah.

We need to pray and wait for the next 5 month, I hope there will be good news coming. Wiranto has also made statement that back KFX program in March this year. I still think that we really need this program, particularly to give our designer a valuable experience in designing 5 generation fighter.

We are also currently trained some people to be test pilot for KFX program, some coming from dirgantara engineer and some from our air force pilot. If the program is successful I predict we will procure about 100 of this plane, inshaAllah.

Some kind of update .
South Korea set to build its own Next Generation Fighter jet - Fighter Jets World
So it seems that the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) is finished and that it's set to advance to a detailed design task.

The PDR has been finished successfully to decide whether to proceed to a critical design review (CDR), and DAPA plan to complete the detailed design process by September 2019 and then begin the production of a prototype.

It also seems that the design chosen is the C-109 version, which is the largest and heaviest two-engine design.

So, our only (59 years old) KC-130B has returned after overhaul in Malaysia. Remarkable that again the overhaul of TNI-AU's KC-130B is done in Malaysia by AIROD.

And ....our first two Su-30s have been upgraded from -MK to -MK2 level!
Scramble Magazine

How about our first two Su-27SK, still on that level, or also already upgraded to Su-27SKM level?

AIROD has hold full license on C-130 for sometime. You have to go to MRO that hold license for job on certain aircraft, when you done upgrade job.

GMF Akan Modifikasi dan Rawat Hercules C-130 Milik TNI AU - Bisnis Tempo.co

GMF as the largest MRO in Indonesia just only in process to do C130. Off course with they already done much larger airliner, GMF has the capabilities to do C130, but seems they only done the licensing for C130 MRO recently.

Yes, final design has been completed in June or July 2018, so it has been a year they are working with detail design. C 109 has been chosen and it is larger than F 35 design. Prototyping itself has been started on February this year for some part.

Our defense budget will be increased in 2020 from 7.7 billion USD into 9 billion USD. I think in the end of Jokowi administration we can have 11 billion USD for defense budget (2024). If the economy goes well and tax ratio increases, I predict we will have at least 16 billion USD defense budget for 2030 inshaAllah. These budget in my opinion is quite sufficient to acquire and maintain 100 4,5/5 generation fighter in the year 2035.

We will see, this current administration is still struggling with the Su-35 acquisition, and besides some armoured vehicles no large contracts are signed until now.

From where I see Jokowi administration spend more on defense equipment made in Indonesia like CN 235 MPA, 17 Transport Helicopter (H22M) 8 Untility Helicopter Bell 425-PT Dirgantara, Some 60 meter and 40 meter Missile Boat (KCR), Anoa APC, Makassar class LPD, Teluk Bintuni class landing ships, Cakra Class submarine upgrade (PT PAL). Maybe many small arms and ammunition (small and large) from Pindad as Pindad sales increases year after year during Jokowi administration.

For foreign equipment is Pandur and BMP 3 F (IFV) acquisition, Zoka torpedo, VL Mica, Oerlikon, mine countermeasures vessels, KFX payment (2019), Trainer plane KT- 1B Wongbee, Skyshield air defense, Hydrographic vessel, Chinese made naval gun for KCR 60 boat, NASAMS air defense (SAM), 11 AS565 MBe Panther shipborne helicopters for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions (Is it Jokowi or SBY ?)

But I do agree that SBY administration is much better on military acquisition. I think we should replace our Defense Minister in the next Jokowi administration.

I dont want to play the smart guy, but almost 100% of all the projects above, are all ordered in SBY era. Thats the problem these days, all those Jokowowers on internet praise the current administration for everything, including the projects started (and sometimes even finished) before the current president went into office.

You have the right to be a Jokowower of course, but please check first before posting such claims.

I will admit that Mr. Widodo is lackluster as far as defense goes, but if you think that Subianto is going to be any better you are wrong.

Mr. Widodo is a civilian. For military stuff he follows the advice of his defense minister, Mr. Ryacudu, a retired army general whose idea of a comprehensive military defense is "bela negara", a vaguely defined concept that involves training a hundred millions of civilians to combat the dangers of LGBTQ and communism. Thank goodness that saner minds eventually defanged that silliness into a similarly useless but at least not costly two months voluntary, uh, playcamp (there is no proper English word to describe the stupidity, but I am hoping to convey the feel of a bunch of adults playing at being trained at being soldiers, and no, a paintball camp is better than this) that corporates and civil institutions are supposed to pay to enroll their employees in.

Mr. Ryacudu is useless as a defense minister and I will gladly admit that his appointment as a defense minister is a blunder on President Widodo's part.

But if you think Subianto's any better, hahahaha. Dude, the guy was an army general of the same mold as Ryacudu. He too believes communism and LGBTQ are the major threat against Indonesia. He too believes that Kopassus is third in the world (third in what and how this was determined was never actually defined). His defense program is going to be exactly like Ryacudu, except more, since there won't be a finance minister to firmly say no to the foolishness.

Mr. Widodo listens to his minister's advice and gave them leeway to do their job. Sometimes the minister is good (Susi Pudjiastuti), but sometimes the minister is shit (Ryacudu). There is some truth in blaming the president for crap minister, because the boss is partially responsible for his underling's stupidity. But thinking that a different president will change this depends on who the other guy is. And in that last election the other guy is the same type as Ryacudu.

You are better off hoping that Susi Pudjiastuti gets appointed defense minister. She is a civilian, but she can recognize bullshit when someone tries to sell her one. And that quality is more important in a defense minister than mere military experience.

You maybe right that some are signed during SBY just like those ASW helicopter and hydographic vessel, I do made mistake on it but others IMO are signed by Jokowi administration. Please correct my list if you have some prove. I use Jane defense as reference and I also have read some of our TNI new procurement document some where a go during Jokowi administration period. I see tendency to procure locally made weapon and equipment which I support.

Look, talking about Jokowi follower, only small portion in our population who are Cebong and Kampret, who blindly supported their respective candidate, we can clearly see it at our FB page where our friend who frequently posted blind support are so few but they are militant and active on internet like FB and Youtube. Even though I vote for Jokowi, I am part of group that is critical to both candidate. This type of voters (who is critical even to his/her leader) that you may already know are called rational voters who can easily change side and judge leaders by their program.

I, for instant, admit that Jokowi has some weaknesses like tend to act authoritarian, undemocratic, etc but I like his economic program so I vote for him despite some flaws since I see economy is vital for our nation progress, and I also dont support some of his policy like KFX renegotiation and some of his defense program like Bela Negara program as Tonnyc mention and few weapon that are actually being procure despite bigger defense budget compared to SBY.

For your information, I may vote for Prabowo camp (Opposition) in 2024 if they have good candidate as I also have voted a political party which is in Prabowo camp during 2014 and 2019 election. And I believe they are many Jokowi voters who are also critical on Jokowi like me and has fair judgement to both Jokowi and Prabowo. Our democracy in my opinion are already quite advance with so many rational voters thats why Prabowo camp who relies mostly on populist agenda that can hurt our long term economic development like low oil price, bigger defense budget, low electricity price, higher wage, low debt doesnt win. On the other hand I also have sympathy on Prabowo camp, particularly by seeing many support he got from conservative Muslim as I also part of the group.

This is just an example of my source and every one knows NASAM are ordered by Jokowi. You can also find others on Jane Defense by searching Indonesia on search box.

I'll be quite surprised if Jokowi sack Ryacudu as Minister of Defence because he was appointed due to his political influenced and the 'one' who's backing him up. However considering this is Jokowi last term and he can't get reelected..well who knows maybe he got more courage to sack him.

I already put in so many posts before, that the problem with Jokowi's administration on defense issue is the implementation of the plan. If you read local forums or Medias, there are lot of writing by Jokowi's supporters that pointing out how this administration already have good plan in form of White Book and Renstra.
However those ' die-hard cebongs' simply do not comprehend the problem is not in 'Plan' but in 'Implementations'.

SBY as retired General, seems got more sense to put two civilians as Min-Def due to their better planning and Implementations.

I have put in Indonesian Navy Thread of Multi Year budget procurement for Defense procurement and 'thank god' people in Ministry of Finance and Bapenas manage to make this administration force future defense procurement (especially the big ones) on more detail multi year budget planning and implementation.
Since the last term of SBY, the multi-year budget for defense practically already being ask by Ministry of Finance for Min-Def to be implemented. This is not simply budgeting, but doing proper implementation stages on longer term procurement.

If done properly means, Min-Def from beginning has to shown proper study and procurement stages on asset being targeted to procure. This mean you can't change the assets in the middle process, since you have to provide detail study on specs of what asset you are targeting (at least that what I hear from people in Bapenas what this multi year budgeting aim for).
I don't have internal source in defense Industries or Min-Def..but I do got some colleagues in Ministry of Finance and Bapenas that told how 'mess-up' Min-Def procurement planning and implementation process especially during this Administration. It's not a secret that Ministry of Finance has several times returned Min-Def procurement due to difference between budget and Implementations process.

That's why with this multi-year budget process, hopefully Min-Def implementation can be more disciplined even if Jokowi not have courage to sack Ryacudu in his second term (but I do hope he has..since Ryacudu simply inept minister).

Wiranto once again stated its commitment on KFX/IFX program but want to decrease Indonesia share. I hope we can keep continuing the program. I would say the year 2019 is rather critical for KFX/IFX program.

Thank you for sharing.
The fact that the contribution isn't paid for 2017 and 2018, is already a sign that Indonesia does have its doubts about this program.
Personally i have the feeling this program can end soon, with or without Indonesia/IPTN involved in this program.

About the decrease of Indonesian share in the KFX, if the program continues there is a chance that what left over for IPTN is only the fabrication of access panels and other small unimportant parts.

Maybe involvement in some kind of improved version of the T-50 / FA-50 can be more successful with less risks.

Your welcome bro,

Just wait for another 4-5 months bro to actually see what fate this program will be. I believe if the renegotiation goes well, Indonesia will pay all of the late payment to secure the program. At least now we have seen more assurance from Wiranto as Indonesian negotiator chairman about the program continuation. Moeldoko as another person who is closed to Jokowi also has said that he back the program and want it to continue. InshaAllah the program will still continue and Indonesia will still taking part on it.

I hope they keep previous cost sharing composition in return of more TOT or work shared from the program. Parliament actually is supportive with the program and has made law that prohibit government to back down from defense agreement that has already been agreed.

As I said earlier defense program is a weakness of Jokowi. He somehow lacks vision on this and seems to get easily manipulated by his ministers (particularly economy minister and maybe some high ranking officials in minister of defense who has relation with foreign defense industry). Alhamdulillah his latest policy is to keep continuing the program even though with less financial commitment. It is a good news even though there is some set back.

If Soekarno or Soeharto is still our leader now, I am 100 percent sure they will not waste the opportunity to put Indonesia as countries who can make their own fighter, even if we need to pay 50 % of the program. We still remember how Soeharto develop and build our aerospace industry and pure money for CN 235 program, NC 212 local manufacturing, N 250 program and even N 2130 program. Even SBY also hold the same vision and understand that Indonesia needs this program since all of biggest nation on earth have already had many strategic indigenous program like India which even still a developing countries like us but have already had ballistic/cruise missile and fighter program.

SBY for instant start from N 219 program, missile program, submarine program, medium tank program, etc until it finally support KFX/IFX program by joining the program. On the other hand, Jokowi main focus in on economy and he lacks visionary sight about Indonesia beyond 2030. He needs to look China example, if China doesnt care with so many strategic defense program when she actually was still poor, China will not be as powerful as Today with so many indigenous weapons like missile, fighter, submarine, tank, etc

With Jokowi which is still in power I doubt there will be another fighter program like manufacturing FA 50 at home since such program needs huge acquisition of the fighter that will suck our money and foreign reserves. But I do hope some day (after 2030) we will have our own indigenous fighter program, maybe a smaller one (single engine), that will fulfill our need for both advance trainer and light attack role.

I think if Jokowi finish its administration in 2024 and all of his infrastructure program completed that will make Indonesia competitive enough, then the next President can increase defense budget from 4 % of our government spending into 8 %. It means from 8 billion USD into 16-20 billion USD (depending on our future government budget).

I think what ever will happen with KFX program, our engineers has already got valuable experience designing a stealth jet fighter since 2011. Our design capability is increasing due to the project. And now we are seeing that Jokowi administration is not supportive for indigenous jet fighter program as we can see on KFX/IFX program. LOL even Jokowi want to pay KFX R&D share with barter payment (Antara news).

So I rather hope our new President after Jokowi (2024) can start another indigenous jet fighter program if in case we leave KFX program. Engine can come from Russia//USA/British avionics can be from European/Turkish/Chinese companies. We have already had 80 designers working in KFX jet fighter program. And I think we are economically capable doing so if we increase defense budget from 4 percent of government spending (8 billion USD) into 8 percent of government spending (16-20 billion USD). Singapore for instant has defense spending 14 percent of their total government budget so 8 percent is still quite low. Another country can join like Pakistan, Saudi so that we broaden the market and get additional funding.

Maybe we can restart Lapan Fighter Experiment program after 2024.

Some IPTN news...
UJI TERBANG N219 PT DI DI BANDARA NUSAWIRU
18 JULI 2019 DIANEKO_LC TINGGALKAN KOMENTAR

Pesawat N219 melakukan uji terbang di atas wilayah Kabupaten Pangandaran dan sekitarnya melalui bandara Nusawiru Cijulang, Rabu, 17 Juli 2019.

Dilansir dari laman Pikiran Rakyat (17/ 07/ 2019), Pesawat bertuliskan Produk Anak Bangsa Hadir Untuk Negeri di badan pesawat buatan PT Dirgantara Indonesia itu dipiloti oleh seorang Kapten asal putra daerah Kabupaten Pangandaran.

........

Complete article at Uji Terbang N219 di Bandara Nusawiru Dipiloti Oleh Putra Daerah | Pikiran Rakyat

A runway of 1400 meters should not be a problem for a N219, after all in the '90s Merpati Nusantara used the CN235 from Bandara Nusawiru.

So IPTN uses both prototypes, the first one PK-XDT and PK-XDP, the second (naked) prototype of the N219 for the test flights in Bandara Nusawiru.
Here some videos.
Many things are changed in Bandara Nusawiru since the last time i was there in 2008. The hangar is also completely new, the airport is operated by DisHub, but i dont know the ownership of the hangar. Anyway the Ground Support Equipment used for the N219s is from IPTN/DI.

It's been a week more I have not surfing local media and forums. Got some info that Mindef and local company in final stage of testing for Local UAV called Rajawali 720. This reported can be developed on MALE categories. Try to find some photos of this UAV from last IndoDefence that circulated on the net.

The specs claim put this as the longest capable Locally made UAV with the claim of 24 hrs operation and 100kg payload.

Below the link to the Mindef Official sites.
