I pray for the safety of my friends living in London and it's vicinity as counterterrorism officers take measures to secure the city in this third incident of the year in UK. Thank you to those who have posted safety checks; and I stand together in grief with my UK friends on this senseless act of violence coming on the heels of the Manchester bombing on 22 May 2017 (which was a sophisticated attack that required significant resources and planning by a terror cell).

Key Facts for this Attack from BBC
===========================
(1) Police confirm more than one fatality after a terror attack on London Bridge and Borough Market on Saturday night (3 June 2017).

(2) Speeding van veered into crowds, reports of men attacking members of public with knives. Reports of "multiple" casualties and walking wounded.

(3) Another incident in nearby Vauxhall was a stabbing and not connected to the terror attack, say police.

(4) Officers understood to be looking for three suspects who may be armed. London Bridge railway station is closed while transport police deal with the incident. Transport for London says the bridge is closed to all traffic.

For those interested, there are some old threads on JI and the Jakarta bombings, and Mas Selamat, a JI operative, which are also terrorism related.

During a press conference, the Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley confirmed that three men in a van struck several pedestrians on the London Bridge at approximately 10:08 pm on Saturday, June 3. After crashing the van, the three men exited the vehicle in Borough Market and began to stab several people, including a police officer responding to the attack.

Within eight minutes of police receiving the initial notification of the incident, the three terrorists were shot and killed by police. He also confirmed that the three men were wearing fake explosive devices.

Makes me wonder if it had not been for the extra armed police presence from the Manchester incident would an armed responce been. So swift considering that most UK police are unarmed?

Terrorism is going to be a primary threat for the future. Back in the '70s I was stationed in the MidEast theater and we had guys getting killed by terrorists back then. I had two friends thrown off a 4th floor balcony by fundamentalists because one of them had married a girl of a different religion. This was 1979.

So life is strange. I had a son and he joined the same service I did, became an MP like I did, and now he's at the very same base I was at. He once asked me if this was ever going to stop and I answered honestly "No, not in your lifetime". So I told himself to get hard over it cause its not going away. In fact its been made much worse by internal Policy's of the country's affected. Including ours.

I think the days of unarmed cops should be long over yet people dont seem to learn. I spent the last few years of my Police career at a major airport and security isn't that much different then it was pre 9/11.
