How to become EOR/D Australian Army?

I'm 17 years old, female, and have applied for the ADF. I've always been interested in working EOR, which I believe generally progresses to EOD.

I have read you have to train as a Combat Engineer, but what stages go from there and is it a possibility to gain work as EOR being female?

Unfortunately for you, females are not able to join as combat engineers. You'll have to wait and see if the defence minister gets his way before applying.

Here's some more data on the course and career paths:

Army - The Soldiers' Newspaper

To do the EOR course (which you need to do before the EOD course) you have to be a combat engineer sapper. Combat engineers are currently limited to males only. The Government is planning on changing this with the new job specific physical and mental testing regime. Combat engineer is as physically and mentally tough – if not more so – than infantry.

If you really want to do this then you should join the RAE (Engineers) in a survey or construction engineering job. When the chance comes through to do the test for female entry into combat engineers you will have a much better understanding of what is required from within the service.

You might be able to do a similar thing through RAAF though you'd have to qualify first as an Aircraft Armament Technician. RAAF appears to accept females in this role at the current time.

This mustering does train staff in EOD from all reports...

Thanks for the info.

Utterly disappointed to find out that combat engineering is unavailable to females. I could have sworn it was. I will look into the RAAF position though.

There is a better way to become an EOD operator within the Army. Join as an Ammo Sup. This is the start of becomming an Ammo Tech. Two of the courses that you have to complete to become an Ammo Tech is the EOR then the EOD course. Unlike the Engineer's the Ammo Tech trade takes Female's.

The best part about being an Ammo Tech is that you get to blow up a lot of ammunition and you get to conduct EOD Operations within Australia, unlike Engineer's, they dont. :rel

I have just gotten out of the Army, trust me I spent a few years doing it.
First thing. I read before something from a RAAFie who knows JACK S@^t. A LAC is not the same as a LCPL. This Einstine needs to check the chart for RAN, Army and RAAF, then he will find out that a LAC is the same rank as a Private.
An Ammo Tech in the Army is easy to do. Join as an Op-Sup, whilst doing the Op-Sup phase of your training you can change to become an Ammo Storeman. As you proceed up in the world on the way to become an Ammo Tech you have to complete the EOR and EOD Courses which run at Orchard Hills (near Penrith NSW).
The Army does have female Ammo Techs and there are female ATO's as well. The best thing to do is to contact either Ammo Pl 9 FSB at Amberley, Ammo Pl 10 FSB at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville or your nearest Regional Office (SATO's Office) in Brisbane, Orchard Hills (Sydney), Melbourne, Adelade, Pearth, Darwin or Townsville. there is no office located in Tas (worst luck). Or you can always contact Ammo Wing at ALTC North Bandy (RAAOC School).
You will find that all Ammo Techs are very easy to approach and will give you all of the information that you require.
How do I know all of this, I was the OPS WO at the Sydney Office from Jan to Sep 2012. I am now out of the army.
I hope you find the answers that you are looking for and all the best, an Ammo Tech was the best job that I had in the Army, I done it for 14 years.

Hi there. I've just put my application in to join ADF as an AT from the UK in part cause I met a great guy in 2000 on ex long look (Fred) who told me a lot about it but mainly because my wife moved to oz prior to us being married and I went there a few times. I spent my 20 plus years in EOD and depots and just wondered (as it appeared from your answer you talked sense) where you thought it might be likely was I successful I may get sent. I know the school is in Albury but I've been heavily involved in IEDD so wondered what your opinion might be.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and I know all info will be given eventually but I go back to afghan in the summer so my wife would love to look up housing and stuff even if it wasn't where we ended up. I obviously understand this is just your opinion and a hunch but even that would be a start.
Kind regards
Pat

Same question

I'm currently in the U. S. Army National Guard. I'm interested in joining the Australian Military as an EOD operator. I'm already a trained and certified Senior EOD Technician in the Army here. What would I have to do to sign up with you guys...pending the end of my current contract of course. I thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

Mate, have a look at the link below, it spells out what is needed for lateral recruits. Luckily for you, EOD is one of the categories open to lateral recruits. However, applications for this year are closed but you can still apply for 2014.
