Okay, so we just have to wait to see what will happen.

The presidential guard (Paspampres) also received some Anoas, and I think they used them to replace the Cadillac Gage Rangers they operated before. So at least one obsolete vehicle has already been replaced by the Anoa :)

Anoa's First Export Order ?

From Antara News Agency with Google Translation:

Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA News) - PT Pindad and WGR Malaysia, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, agreed on the sale of six armored 6x6 "Anoa" Pindad production. The deal was outlined in a memorandum of understanding signed by both parties in the arena of "defenses Services Asia Exhibition and conference in 2010", in Kuala Lumpur, Thursday.

Signing was witnessed by Minister of Defense and Minister of State Yusgiantoro Mustafa Abubakar. Pindad a 6x6 armored personnel carrier armored vehicles with symmetry-wheel drive system designed specifically for the army, especially cavalry.

This armored vehicle can carry 10 personnel with three crew, a commander, and a "gunner." It is also equipped with a "mounting" 12.7 mm gun that can rotate 360 degrees.
It's only Six, and it's not clear whether this MoU means still an agreement to purchase, or already a firm order. Still it's the first export order if being realise, and not a bad job for Pindad who just few years ago still strugling to build an armoured vehicles.

Malaysia seems indicated wants to have 8x8 whelled armoured carriers as the standard. Anoa's is 6x6, frankly speaking I don't know if there's significant differences in capabilities between 6x6 and 8x8 configurations (besides the number of wheels:)). One thing for sure assides small number of the BTR-80 that's being used by the Marines and old Army Panhard, TNI as far as i can gather, stick to 4x4 and 6x6 as standard.

I believe the six Anoas are for immediate use in Lebanon. Malaysian troops there are riding around in the Condor APC, which needs urgent replacement due to heavy wear & tear. They don't want to wait until the 8x8 has arrived in four or five years, so they buy the Anoas off the shelf because they can probably send them to Lebanon before the end of 2010. It's a stop-gap solution.

But congrats to Pindad for their first export deal!

PT.PINDAD Ammunition Plant Division is designed to produce approximately 150 million per year ammunition, mortars, and bombs with different calibers and sizes. The portion of the production of 5.56 mm caliber bullets cover of 75% of the total production. 5.56 mm caliber bullet is a bullet SS1 assault rifle is the weapon of organic TNI / police.

Pindad has also been able to make various bombs and sea mines filled with explosives up to 750 kg. Selain itu, In addition, PT Pindad also developed a bullet that can penetrate armor plate and then have the power to explode and burn. This bullet is paired with the weapons to sniper or snipers. Pindad already mastered the technology for small-caliber ammunition. Ananda, yes the idea of Indonesia procuring a Main Battle Tank has been floating around in internet forums and blogs since many years, but that was only talk. But this time it was no blogger or random internet guy who said it, it was the commander of the armored corps himself.
Hi David, I got part of Article from Korea Times on Potential Indonesian Army MBT:

Besides the K11 deal with the UAE, negotiations are being actively held on the exports of the K2 to Jordan, those of the K1A1 to Thailand and Indonesia, as well as the sale of the Harbor Underwater Surveillance System (HUSS) to Vietnam, Park said.
This is part of Article showing Korea capability and ambitions to become major player on World Defense market.
This's the only article so far that I got from Korea showing active negotiations in hand for exporting K1A1 MBT to Indonesia. In the early ofthis thread, I've stated from local sources that potential MBT will come from Russia and South Korea.
With Increasing defence agreement with South Korea (with Pindad for Armed Armoured Carriers, Development for Amphibious Amrmoured CArrires, with PAL for Potential Local Manufacturing of SSK, and IAe/DI for agreement on further development of CN 235 and potential join development as junior partner on KFX), I would not be surprises that K1A1 will have a better bargaining chip compared to T 90 as Indonesian Army first real MBT.

Yes, this is interesting news, thank you ananda!

But I'd still be cautious. Right now the only person claiming that there are negotiations is someone from the South Korean defence industry. And as such, his primary intention is to promote his own company. So as long as neither the South Korean government nor Indonesia does confirm that there are indeed negotiations about the K1A1, I will remain hesitant to accept this as a fact.
But still very good from you to inform us about this newspaper article, thank you again.

Agree with you. Like I said before MBT is not a priority right now. However with increasing potential defense projects that being circulated between Indonesia and South Korea, seems it's interesting for me to see how far any of this potential projects comming.
With increasingly current administrations motivated to improved local defense industry, South Korea come with several potential projects, which nearly all of them was being offered with local industry active participations.

One thing that deserves attention is the low readiness and mastery of operational procedures of EADS Tetra by existing Human Resources (HR) who will be manning the equipment. Given the relatively sophisticated equipment in pengoperasionalannya, as well as the overall complexity of existing features in it, it is expected to restructure the plan by the party against operators Satkomlek EADS TNI, Hubdam Jaya, Hubrem and Kodim about using a data communication system can be implemented as soon as possible. So the use of trunking equipment EADS and Network Management System by Kodam Jaya and its staff can be optimized.

About Tetra Technology Overview

Tetra digital communications system is one application on Tetra Digital Communications System which is the most modern digital communication technologies today that will be used by the military. AApplication Monitoring Movement of troops using the GPS feature that existed at both terminals Handled Tetra Radio and Mobile Radio.

This application is very helpful in the command control center (Command Control) to control the troops on the ground in situations riots or other disturbances. Every Radio Tetra is used by troops in the field has a unique identity (ID) which was then translated to the digital map is in command of the identity of a particular color according to its function in the field, for example: the color green for the army club, the color red for intruder and color agents purple for a sniper (sniper).

This application allows the field commander to localize the target area (the intruder agent), knows the position and knowing penindak unit troop movements (personal auto tracking).

( DMC )
Well it's a beggining step to personalise Soldier equipment with Network Centric environment. It's late, but better then never.

BTW; for forum members that interested with development of JI (Jemaah Islamiyah) in Indonesia, there's new development: Abu Bakar Ba'asyir that many suspected (but can't have strong legal evidence up until know) as Spiritual Leader of JI has been arrested.
The arrest come after latest sting of uprooting JI cells in here, the Police found strong evidence that Ba'asyir was not only known but actively involved with new initiative of JI cell movements. Ba'asyir was in prison for 2 years (2005-2007) after Marioot bombing, but that charges only for protecting the suspect. No direct involvement so far has been found.

New MI-35

From Rianovosti Russia delivers three Mi-35M helicopters to Indonesia | World | RIA Novosti

Russia has delivered three Mi-35M Hind assault helicopters to Indonesia, a military source said on Thursday.

Russia signed an agreement with Indonesia in September 2007 to provide a $1 billion credit line to the Southeast Asian country for Russian weapons purchases. Indonesia planned to buy ten Mi-17 transport helicopters, five Mi-35Ms, six Sukhoi fighters and two Kilo-class submarines financed by the credit.

Jakarta became one of Russia's major arms customers in 1999 when the United States tightened an embargo on arms sales to the country over alleged human rights violations.

Washington has since lifted the ban, but Indonesia, the world's most populous Islamic country, continues to turn to Russia for its military hardware imports.

Moscow has already delivered three Su-27SKM fighters to Indonesia as the final part of an August 2007 $300 million deal for six of the Sukhoi fighters.

The agreement followed a 2003 deal on the purchase of four fighter jets by Indonesia from Russia.

The planes will take part in a military parade dedicated to Indonesian Armed Forces Day on October 5.

The Mi-35M is an export version of the Mi-24 Hind that was used extensively in Afghanistan. The Mi-24/35 can be used for transportation, assault and medical evacuation tasks.
Since the users for those MI-35 is the Army (TNI-AD), I put the news in the Army Thread.
Currently TNI-AD already have 2 MI-35 and 6 MI-17, with delivery of 3 MI-35, then TNI AD will wait for another 4 MI 17 to complete the contracts.

There's no news on additional credit line, however sources in here says that the 2007 contract for 6 Flankers that just being completed the delivery was not included in the USD 1 bio Credit line that Putin and SBY sign.

The bulk of USD 1 bio credit line supposed goes to USD 700 mio on Kilo subs, however indication in here seems shows that The Navy (TNI AL) will not get Kilo's but South Korean/German design (Changbogo/U 209), that will be constructed locally in Surabaya (PT. PAL). Thus the allocation for Subs in the contract can be use for alternative system.

Already some speculations said that the Additional 6 Flankers plus weapon will be negotiated with Russian to used the credit line that supposed goes to Kilo subs. Also potential the Air Force wants to regain Area SAM capabilities that lost when SA-2 was taken off from operational status in early 70's.

However the Army also want to used the credit line to get more MI-35 and MI-17. Well have to be seen. Personally with more MI-35 and MI-17 coming, the need for Air Force specialised COIN is diminishing. But hey what do I know :D

Indeed, the 3 Su-27SKM and 3 Su-30MK2 were not part of the $1 M package.

Just out of curiosity, what's it got that refurbished second hand Grads don't? I bet they would be a whole lot cheaper then developing your own. Not to mention, they have a proven track record.

Ahh...the 122mm rockets being developed according to Pindad sources on local media (sorry can't find on-line articles), is being design addaptable with existing Grads MLRS. This's matter on getting Domestic self suffcients on rockets.
Besides Pindad now trying to manufactured scaled down Grads that can be mounted on Anoa's.

From Flight International:

Jakarta has earmarked $65 million for new medium utility helicopters, but the Indonesian defence ministry has yet to receive the funds.

The army plans to use the money to buy a batch of six medium utility helicopters, according to an industry source speaking at the tri-service Indo Defence Expo & Forum in Jakarta. A second batch of eight aircraft would be purchased later.

Previous reports have suggested that Indonesia's total requirement could be for 24 new utility helicopters; enough to be divided into two squadrons.

The army has yet to select a type, but has said in the past that it wants a helicopter that can perform both utility and attack roles. However, the industry source says the first role has taken on a greater priority recently.

Several helicopter manufacturers were present at the Jakarta show, including AgustaWestland, Eurocopter and Indonesian Aerospace (IAe).

Possible contenders for the requirement include AgustaWestland's AW139, the Eurocopter-promoted NH Industries NH90, and the Bell 412EP, put forward by the US manufacturer and IAe.

(Flight International)
Considering current Poltical climates, I Think Bell 412 EP will win. The Army already have 2 sq of Bell 412, and it's manufactured locally with DI.

Also from Korean News Daily:

Daewoo International to export military wheeled armored vehicles 6x6 to Indonesia Army worth of 70 million dollars.

Indonesian Defense Ministry and Daewoo International recently signed agreement and came into effect 11 days to start production this month.

Wheeled armored vehicles 6 x6 is the first time to export to overseas.

Daewoo equipped 22 units of armored with a 90mm turret, split 11 units completely knock down (CKD), and 11 unit in parts assembly (SKD), Indonesia announced that it will lead to the Army by end of 2013.

Production and 90mm armored turret assembly headed by the Doosan DST, SKD volume manufacturing technology transfer contract with the armored vehicles in Indonesia is planning to assemble in the arsenal.

Company officials said "military diplomacy in the DAPA and the competitive win financial support Korea Export-Import Bank for this project was a great help," he said.

Daewoo International in the past one year worth of $ 80 million from the Indonesia Navy type 209 submarines overhaul contracts, and amount to $ 40 million from the Indonesian Air Force basic trainer contracted.

(New Daily)
It's confirm where the Pindad 90 mm will be based on.
