For Strategic Ballistic Missiles(Greater than 3000km) ,the US Ground Based Interceptor would be the best.

Comparision of Arrow-2 and S-300PMU-2 Favorit

Missile Performance
Arrow-2 :It can intercept Missile at ranges of 50-90km.The Maximum speed of the Missile is Mach 9.Maximum Altitude is Staggering 50,000m.
The Missile employs TVC and dual Seeker,Passive Infra-Red and Active Radar seeker.
The warhead is Blast Fragmentation and can intercept the target within radius of 50m.

S-300PMU-2:It has a range of 3-200km. The maximum Speed of the Missile is Mach 8 (10,000km/h).Maximum Altitude is 30m-27,000m.
Missile Guidance is of Track Via Scan (TVM) active Radar Guidance.

The warhead is HE-Fragmentation with a proximity fuze.

Though PMU has Longer range than Arrow, Arrow has much longer altitude range than PMU which is more important on ABM Role.

Radar:
Arrow-2: The Long Range Fire Control Radar is Green Pine.
Detection Range is 500km,Can track targets over a speed of 3000km/h.
It is Phased Array L-Band Radar.
It provides Early Warning,Target Illumination and Guidance to Arrow Missile.

S-300PMU-2:
It uses Big Bird Radar for genereal surveillance and Target tracking.
The Radar is E/F Band with a tracking range of 300km.

It uses I/J Band Flap Lid B Radar for Guidance of the Missile.
It has a Range of 200km.

It also uses S-Band Calm Shell 3D Continuos Wave Pulse Doppler Target Aquisition Radar.
This Special Radar is particularly used to detect Cruie Missiles,Low RCS Targets.
It can Detect low Flying targets in Ground Clutter and Intense ECM Enviroments.
Detection Range is 93km and Maximum Altitude detection is 120km.
It can detect 180 Low level targets and RCS is as low as 0.02sqm.

Quoted performance figures include the detection of targets with an RCS as low as 0.02 square metres, at speeds of up to 1,400kt, with a bearing resolution of 1 , velocity resolution of 9.3kt and range resolution of 4km (2.15nm). RMS tracking errors are 0.3 in bearing, 4.7kt in velocity and 1.85km (1nm) in range. Chaff rejection performance is better than 100dB.
I am really excited to watch How will an HARM or ALARM will perform against this Calm Shell Radar.


Other Capabilities:
Arrow-2 System can intercept 14 Targets Simlutaneously.
It has Citron Fire Control System.

The trajectory image is colour matched to the image of its launch site. The optimum intercept point is also displayed. The centre can control up to 14 intercepts simultaneously.[/size][/font]

S-300 is more Reliable and need not be Checked up or maintained for 10 years.
Another marked advantage of the Favorit system is that all its components can remain on alert for a long time, which is of particular importance in a period prior to a military conflict. The technical capabilities of Favorit components ensure their uninterrupted operation in high alert conditions for two days and over a longer period for shorter intervals.

Conclusion:Both have Equal Capability against a ABM Role.But S-300PMU has very effective defence against Cruise Missiles,Stand off Missile,Fighter Planes,Stealth Aircraft.
Weapon Systems like F-117A,JASSM,Tomahawk etc will have tough time against the S-300PMU.It will completely Complicate the US SEAD and DEAD Tactics.They need to now think from a new way.

I don't know much about S-400 but S-300PMU-2 will give the real Challenge to US Air Power.
It has reportedly high probability of interception against the tomahawks.

The Billion Dollar question would be
How will US Counter the Advanced Russian Missile Defence Systems like
S-300/400?????

Apparently US got some S-300 Systems but don't know of they are PMU or VM??
One Thing is sure US Never goes out to War without doing

intense Homework(Plans,Tactics,Strategy etc).
So they will Plan some or the other for these S-300/400 but more would depend how effectively they would be excuted.
