Best known to general public for running over a pile of tires (just over a metre high) laid out by the fellow countrymen unhappy with the overthrow of the president they elected and greatly disliking the new people taking over, and demanding greater autonomy from Kyiv. More recently (for some reason not) remembered for resigning from (or quitting a) smaller role under extremely little pressure a few days after accepting a promotion.
Will be interesting to see the changes at the front. People complained a lot about “too late Syrsky” leaving men to die for no reason to hold a position or a “fortress”. That should be solved now, naturally translating into increased rate of Russian advances. Busification should now naturally (but gradually) disappear as well because the influx of volunteers should be more than sufficient, as it was in 2022.
Ironically, I see plenty of talk by Ukrainians today that it wasn’t really Syrsky that was the problem, he just did what had to be done in the circumstances. Go figure. At least this guy now gets some time (a year?) for all the shit to still be blamed on his predecessor, as was the case with Zaluzhny.
Also, if you think about what is/has been happening in the bigger picture. Russian completely mess up the invasion, likely aimed at some Georgia-like outcome a decade and a half prior. Millions of inspired Ukrainians, witnessing a Russian retreat, wrongly believing in immediate collapse of the Russian army (and possibly country), rush to volunteer to the recruitment centres. Time goes by, Russia is still in the process of collapsing 4.5 years later, still advancing, cemeteries keep growing, people still leaving the country, those who cannot (due to the ban on leaving and lack of funds to make the ban void for their person) clearly do not want to die and do their best to avoid being grabbed off the streets and be sent to the front to protect some position that should have been abandoned weeks ago, with a prospect of drinking rain water and dieting potentially for months on. It gets to the point that bystanders are no longer bystanders as they physically help the busification victims to resist the process and get away to live another day, while chanting something about monsters, meat grinder and certain death, etc. At the same time, somehow, the polls (I will use “allegedly” here, because they all come from one source in Kyiv) indicate that all these same people want to keep fighting, willing to join the army if needed, and definitely do not want to give up any territory, including Crimea that was long gone anyway. In fact, they are happy with the potential blockade of their alleged fellow countrymen in the peninsula, depriving them not only of fuel, but also water and food, along with other necessities.
Then comes someone like Fedorov, largely a populist (like Zelensky was back in the day… well, still is), promising fewer deaths, and more of all the good things, including the choking of the Crimean countrymen eager to return to the Ukrainian ranks. He says that Ukraine has already ceased the initiative on the battlefield and in he skies:
He talks about some clean war, shift away from the infantry-dependent “Soviet-style” warfare, greatly reduce casualties, implement the reform that provides for better serving conditions, limited terms, epic monetary remuneration, and so on. Basically “paradise” compared to today’s “hell”. Of course, at least half of what he promises had already been implemented previously and legislatively so, in spite of being detached from reality, which is why it never worked. Most of the other half is just as detached from reality, so… But hey, people eat this up as a breath of fresh air. Many, however, judging by the current talks, understand the fairy telling. Which is why the epic protests intentionally filmed from the street in reality look like this:
In other words, it’s quite “Trumpesque”.
What this whole thing shows, in my opinion, rather very well is the fatigue from the war, prevailing corruption that each next populist promises to rid of, yet somehow gets in neck deep himself and/or with people they surround themselves with, etc (compare it to the landslide victory by Zelensky in 2019).
in the meantime, people keep creating their own reality that is simply not there:
As I had already mentioned this previously, it boggles my mind that people start coming up with weird theories instead of looking straight at what they wrote and drawing conclusions based on most likely (and kind of obvious) situation. In this case: "A year ago all of the remaining MiG-29SMTs were parked, & the older 9.13s were mothballed or derelict.” I mean I understand it must be hard to read and process in a extremely confused mind, but…
Another example of the “all NEW” wunderwaffe based on the Ukrainian ingenuity:
I mean think of the ridiculousness of all this.
We’ve had hundreds of Flamingos manufactured monthly, at half the cost (which is actually extremely expensive for what it is) of a Tomahawk, that also fly double the distance and carry double the payload. Its “wings are filled with styrofoam” is apparently a selling point (not sure why). Now we are developing a ballistic missile interceptors half the cost of “Patriots” (not even sure what that means) and we are doing it with a crew of Euro peeps (and, of course, Canadians too!), people who provided their best tech (with years of development) years ago and have been updating it with Ukrainian input and data ever since, and it still cannot intercept ballistic missiles AND it costs as much as “Patriot” or more. We also have Ukraine with (allegedly) a whole bunch of licenses to manufacturer stuff they have no business of being near of (if or when the experiment fails, the tech will all go to the highest bidder or Russia itself?), that is going to produce it all by bundles no one else ever dreamed of… all while sitting on electricity and water rations, constant bombardment, significant shortage in the workforce, etc. None of the restrictions other participants have, by the way. They are, however, restricted by the funding (which they also provide to Ukraine) and lack of a number of various very important components in sufficient quantities, none of which are manufactured in… Ukraine.
Anyway, the delusion is much deeper than the scratch of the surface reveals. Now, with new CiC, loved by everyone, and still pending the person for the MoD job, things sure will change quickly. By the way, the Commander-in-Chief will still have the same generals (and others) to command and take advice from, many of those people supported the predecessor and his methods. The MoD (and the Foreign Minister, for that matter ) will only be known after the Ukrainian parliament returns from a well-deserved vacation in the middle of August or there about, because there is nothing extraordinary happening in the country and all is well.
