What will be the SSMs on this ship? Will they stick to the SSm-700KC?
See the mission list in the brochure.

The requirements of the OPV were never public but reported by third parties such as Maxdefense as including a growth potential for SSMs. Nothing hardwired but deck space and relevant loads being factored into the design.

More background information on why the Philippines SecDef signed the deal days before he was supposed to step down (locking down the price due to concerns of exchange rate being unfavourable to the peso)

...
Lorenzana added that if he will let the OPV contract drag on until he steps down on June 30, he is not sure whether his successor Jose Faustino Jr., who was named officer-in-charge, is authorized or has the power to sign such contracts.

By the time his successor is allowed to sign it, Lorenzana said it is likely that the project’s cost will be higher.

"Hyundai is saying na kapag nagtagal pa ng 100 days, before the time of the Notice of Award is given, ay hindi na nila kaya yun presyo. Naghahabol tayo ng presyo (Hyundai is saying that if 100 days will pass before the Notice of Award will be given, they could no not longer afford to construct the OPVs at those price. We are chasing for a lower price here)," Lorenzana said.

For these reasons, the outgoing DND chief said he decided to sign the contract as the project has been ongoing since 2018 and that signing is beneficial for the "greater interest of the government."
There are also plans to get HHI to build their maintenance depot at Subic.

Lorenzana said the facility, which may rise at the former Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Philippines (HHIC-Phil) shipyard in Subic Bay, would cater to the maintenance needs of all HHI-built naval vessels of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

"They are planning to construct a maintenance depot here for all (HHI-ordered) ships," Lorenzana said in his farewell meeting with reporters Tuesday, responding to queries on whether the DND will have to send its HHI-constructed ships to South Korea if they are due for repairs or maintenance.

The Philippine Navy has received two new Shaldag Mk.V fast patrolboats on yesterday on 6 September.

These 32-meter, high-speed vessels are equipped with quick intercept ability, remote stabilized weapons like the ATK Mk.44 30mm Bushmaster autocannon on Rafael Typhoon RCWS, and a Rafael Typhoon MLS-NLOS missile launcher with 8 × Rafael Spike NLOS miisiles.

Soon to be commissioned BRP Nestor Acero (PG901) and BRP Lolinato To-ong (PG902) are part of the nine Shaldag Mk V contracted with an approved budget of 10 billion pesos inclusive of missile and weapon systems.

Video from Xavier on HHI booth in Euronaval 2022. However I put it here, as HHI in this video shown more on their OPV and Corvette project for Phillipine Navy. As mentioned before in this thread, the Corvette actually slightly bigger then previous Frigatte that HHI build for Pinoy Navy.

DCNS will provide anti-torpedo defence system based on CANTO®/CONTRALTO® countermeasures solution to equip the two Jose Rizal-class frigates.

CANTO uses the dilution/confusion concept to defend high value and mission essential units by generating a highlevel acoustic signal over 360-degree, covering the full frequency range of the attacking torpedo.

Philippine Navy personnel completed the "Operator Training" of the BrahMos Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System in India.

BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited signed a contract with the Department of National Defence of the Republic of Philippines last year on 28 January 2022 for the supply of three batteries of Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile systems, with a value of Php 18,9 Billion.

The training that ran from 23 January to 11 February 2023 focused on the operations and maintenance of some of the most important logistics package of the SBASMS that will be delivered to the Philippines.

Philippines Coast Guard personnel will increase by 4000 toward 30000 level. That's quite respectable level of organization. This in line with further investment on Philippines CG. While media and defense enthusiasts more incline to see Navy growth, but CG actually shown increasing traction.

CG need to be more robust, if Philippines want to shown coverage patrol throughout it's maritime border line. CG as maritime Constabulary also provide more 'soften' diplomacy on maritime stand off, rather then Navy. Good to see Philippines increase the investment in CG.

Transfer and commissioning of ex-USS Monsoon (PC 4) and ex-USS Chinook (PC 9) to the Philippines Navy at Bahrain

There are no more Cyclones in active service now.

The US are still holding on to three hulls, ex-USS Tornado (PC 14), ex-USS Sharmal (PC 13), and ex-USS Zephyr (PC 8) at the Inactive ship facility in Philadelphia. From the looks of Google Streetview (October 2022), two of them seems to have been stripped (probably the two planned to be scrapped). That leaves ex-Tornado still available.

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) signed a contract in June 2022 with the Philippine Department of National Defense to construct six units of new build 2400 ton Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) worth USD 573 million. And now Hanwha Systems announced it will supply its combat management system (CMS) and tactical datalink for these 6 OPVs.

From 9:17 we will get a nice tour on the Jose Rizal-class frigate BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151) of the Philippine Navy.

Here some news from the Philippines.
The Philippine Navy commissioned on 26 Mei the 3rd & 4th Acero-class (SHALDAG Mk. V) patrol boats: BRP Gener Tinangag (PG903) & BRP Domingo Deluana (PG905). The Philippine Navy's 3rd and 4th SHALDAG Mk. V interceptor boats arrived in the Philippines on 11 April 2023.

The Shaldag Mk.V Acero class of patrolboats are very fast but also very small, it will be challenging for the crew if they have to confront the chinese navy/costguard/innocent unarmed civilian fishing vessels at open sea. On the other hand, these small boats are armed with the Spike-NLOS.

And next month, the Philippine Coast Guard will conduct its first-ever trilateral maritime exercise with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) at the vicinity waters off Mariveles, Bataan, from 01 to 07 June 2023.

The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) and US Marine Corps (USMC) are set to sink a former Philippine Navy tanker..... which was built in China!
The 99 meter long ship was built in 2008 by Taizhou Zhongxing Shipyard. The BRP Lake Caliraya was formerly a double-hulled oil products tanker of the now defunct Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) Shipping and Transport Corporation, was donated to the Philippine Navy in 2014 together with 2 other tankers of the company and was decommissioned in 2020.

A very successful class. Seven, isn't it, for Indonesia, including a hospital ship? Two for Peru, one for Myanmar, two for the Philippines plus two more ordered, & one for the UAE?

Actually TNI-AL have 8 of this class. The first one Tanjung Dalpele (later on switch to hospital ship dr Soeroso), is the originator of this class. This is the first one that Daesun build. The other 7 follow more on Makasar class patern with 5 as LPD and 2 for Hospital Ships.

As for UAE one, if it is build as order, should be consider different class as it is considerably larger (160m vs 122-125m of others), and with higher level of automation. It is basically Makasar Class with steroid and more expensive suits.

They've found a niche & are exploiting it well They're replacing old ex-USN LSTs in some cases, I think. From what I've read the basic ship is a bit spartan (presumably not the UAE one), but does the job & the price is very good. There may be other S. American customers, & perhaps Morocco.

Steel cutting for the first of two new LPDs that the Philippines Navy ordered last year happened earlier today, 10 August 2023 at PT PAL.

|"With an overall length of 124 meters, and a displacement of 7,200 tons, it can sail for up to 30 full days."|

If this is true, then it means these two LPDs are one meter longer than the first two vessels of the Philippine Navy.

ELAC SONAR GmbH, a German supplier of hydroacoustic systems, announced that it completed sea acceptance tests of the HUNTER hull-mounted sonar for the Philippine Navy's Gregorio del Pilar-class frigates on 27 July 2023.

HUNTER 2.0 is a hull-mounted sonar carrying out anti-submarine warfare (ASW) in active and passive modes in shallow and deep waters for panoramic detection of submarines and other objects. The system features a forward-looking mine avoidance mode as well.

Not much other information is given in this article, like on which of the three frigates (or maybe the whole class) the new sonar system

It is also unclear why a sonar will be installed, while the vessels do not have/get anti-submarine weapon systems.
Here we can find some more details about the upgrade program of the Gregorio del Pillar class.

On 11 September, two Cyclone-class patrol vessels transferred from the U.S. were commissioned into the Philippine Navy.

BRP Valentin Diaz (PS-177) and BRP Ladislao Diwa (PS-178), formerly USS Monsoon (PC-4) and USS Chinook (PC-9), were transferred to the Philippines in April immediately after being decommissioned from active U.S. service, but some sensors and equipment, such as Satellite Communications (SATCOM), were removed prior to the transfer, and the ships themselves were refurbished before delivery. Not much details are given about the armament and other equipment, but looking to the photos, at least one Mk.38 Bushmaster 25 mm gun is installed.

BRP Valentin Diaz (PS-177) and BRP Ladislao Diwa (PS-178) are the last Cyclones in the U.S. Navy until their transfer, marking an end to the patrol ships’ American service history. With these two patrolboats, the Philippine Navy now posses three Cyclones.
