Pakistan Air Force [PAF] News and Discussions

I had read (perhaps in one of tphuang's post) that the JF-17 has been compared to the current fleet of the PLAAF and has been found to out-perform all its fleet. The Fleet consists of the Su-30MKK as well. Is this a confirmed report. Are there any neutral / published sources for this. Also what are the radar ranges on the JF-17

It wasn't the JF 17, it was J10 if i remember correctly, which out performed flankers. But haven't got any credible reference.

Oh yeah you are right - I meant the J-10, apologies

So dos anyone have data on the J-10 outperforming the Flankers esp the Su-30MKMs, and what are the radar ranges on the J-10

What type of ammunition P.A.F. is using in waziristan operation?
Will JF -17s take part in the operation?:ar15
(although it seems early but after completion of 1st squadron there is no problem to test them in a real mission......where JF-17 won't be facing serious threats.)

I personally think that only 36 j10s will not be enough for PAF ,i hope they will extend the deal.
Keeping in view the appearance of PAK-FA on stage , IAF acquiring 126 most advance 4th generation fighters and the increase in numbers of su30s.... will pose a difficult challenge and surely will disturb the strategic balance in south asia.:unknown

36 is the initial negotiations. PAF would like to test the platform before committing to more. There will be around 150-medium weight fighters in the PAF fleet made up of F-16s and FC-20s. Currently, there are 45 F-16s + 18 new = 63. Add 36 FC-20s that becomes around 100.

So 50 additional planes either F-16s or FC-20s will be procured in the future.

That looks good but how PAF will counter the threat of PAK FA,and there are news of indian air force painting their Su30mki with stealth coating(will give them some degree of stealth as well).
We know that the growth rate of Pakistan is currently round about 2% and economic condition is still not stabilized. There will always be restrictions in Defense budget. How PAF will deal with this i don't know.

December last year indian jet fighters violated Pakistan air space and were chased by PAF fighters.
This event raised the tensions between the neighboring countries to it's utmost Can some body tell wich IAF fighters violated Pakistani airspace in the Lahore and Kashmir region.
Which planes were flown from the Pakistani side for interception.

PAK-FA is still a long way to go.

PAF will buy stuff that is a minimum deterrence and that which it can easily afford. Remember, Russia was defeated on an economic front and not with B-2 and F-22. The JF-17 and F-16+FC-20 will provide PAF with up-to-date modern fighters that will give it a capability to give any invading airforce a punch in the face especially when coupled with AWACS and IFR Tankers.

For example, what you saw when Indian planes violated the borders last year. With these new planes, it is possible to better detect and fight such threats and for a short limited war (like the so called surgical strikes being talked about) this is a good deterrence. If a longer and more violent war is ever fought, its the missiles and nukes that will determine such an outcome--and the very presence of them will prevent such escalations from ever happening.

Simply put, PAF is not going to match everything that IAF buys but keep what it considers a minimum requirement according to its plans and policy. If there is any such thing, (like chinese stealth) then we obviously do not know of it yet. Only time will tell if such a plane exists, if china is willing to sell and if we can afford to buy.

We are not sure but from the rumors the IAF planes were Mig 29 while the PAF planes were Mirages and F-16. The famous 'picture of a lock-on' is said to be from F-16. But nothing official about it AFAIK.

Which picture is that? anyway you can show the pic,,or link for it.

there isn't one available for public. It was reported in all major newspapers/channels that Gen. Kayani showed a picture of a lock-on of an indian plan to visiting US delegation (hoobroke?) saying next time we will shoot it down, during the India-pakistan tussle of words after mumbai attack--when US was trying to say that pak army should not move out of swat as US won't allow anything to happen on the eastern border.

This was reported so much on TV, I am surprised you are unaware of it.

Yes, PAF have ordered CFT's for their new F-16's. The media shot does not show them carrying weapons either...

Can somebody tell the YLC-2 and TPS-77which the PAF got has antiballistic capabilities as that of Green pine radar ?
if not has PAF got any plans for acquisition of this capability, in future.

36 CFTs for 18 F-16C/D 52+ versions. There has been no word on deal for CFTs for the rest of the fleet.

What exactly do you mean by "antiballistic capabilities"? Do I take you mean the ability to search and track the missiles? then partially yes, the TPS-77 according to its manufacturer has design flexible to be used in that task though probably not optimized for it.

However, you need a missile defense system to act as interceptors - Green Pine is just a radar itself, wont do much other then telling you death is coming :onfloorl:

Frankly speaking though, good luck to anyone thinking they can evade real ballistic missiles by using a Missile defense system with present-day technology.

To answer you question, I do not think Pakistan has the resources or plan to deploy a missile shield if that is what you are referring to, and that too when the threat is just across the border.
