PT. Lundin (North Sea Boats) video on delivery ceremony of KRI Golok toward TNI-AL operational fleet in Surabaya. This FAC slotted to be operational with 1st fleet that just being moved to Riau Islands Province.

The video in english, as ussual cause this is afterall company promotional video, there're tall claims by the comentator. Anyway this is the kind of FAC/FMC that Konsberg try to offer their NSM as in the link that Sandhi put in his post #2,022.

Thank you for sharing.
My comments on this video:
It is remarkable that John Lundin wasn't at the hand-over ceremony, he was probably sick. And yes they made some very daring claims.
- "High destructive power" (just a manual operated 20 mm gun)
- "The second country in the world capable of building stealth warships..."

Anyway, lets discuss this article, this is about the same event of Ananda's video.

|"The discussion focused on three primary topics: upgrading the new trimaran fast attack craft, the KRI Golok, acquiring fast missile boats, and procuring NSM."|
|" Kongsberg representatives stated that the maximum range of the missile, which can extend to 250 km, will increase the firepower and effectiveness of the Indonesian Navy. "|
|" The Indonesian Navy reportedly intends to acquire roughly 120 fast boats. Additionally, Admiral Yudo is reportedly interested in deploying NSM aboard KRI Golok in order to evaluate the missile’s capabilities and compatibility with their ambitions and needs."|

It is remarkable that they stated that the maximum range of the NSM is 250 km, officially until now it is just 185 km, slightly more than the Exocet MM40 Block 3.

We also find here the plans of the Indonesian Navy:
1. Using the single X63 Trimaran as a test platform for the Kongsberg NSM.
2. The wish/plan to have up to 120 small fast missile boats.
3. No intention to order more X63 Trimarans from PT Lundin.

But it would indeed be nice if they install the NSM into the KRI Golok 688 (including advanced sensors and CMS), just equipping such advanced 63,5 meter long stealth trimaran with a single Yugoimport 20 mm M71/08 and two machine guns is such a waste.

Lundin always try to work with Scandinavian Defense firms. Not surprising since John Lundin himself is Swedish. In first prototype he's trying to go with SAAB with RBS 15.

Problem always how to break MBDA grip on Indonesian market. Eventough TNI-AL been using Harpoon, Russian Yakhont, and Chinese SSM, but those are relative small populations compare to Exocet family within TNI-AL inventory. Let's see how Konsberg fortune on this game.

I don't know the price difference between the MM40 Exocet and NSM, but if TNI-AL is satisfied about the performance, reliability and compatibility of the NSM with the CMS of the current fleet, than its shouldn't be a problem to use the NSM besides the MM40.

Here a live fire exercise on the KRI Torani 860, a 45,5 m long PC-40 patrol boat. According to many sources, including Lembaga Keris, it has a 20 mm gun, but actually it is armed with a Oto Melara Marlin 30 mm WS.

On these photos and video we can see TNI-AD testing the new KRI Teluk Palu 523 with some Leopard 2 tanks.

Besides the KCR-60 there is another 60 meter patrolboat project, the PC-60. Two of these vessels are under construction at PT. Caputra Mitra Sejati. Some months ago they installed the dieselgenerators.

Delivery of these patrolboats is planned for 2022.

PAL handing over KRI Cakra back to MinDef which will return to TNI-AL, as the completion from overhaul job. PAL claim this is the most thorough overhaul job done for KRI Cakra, as PAL CEO indicating the overhaul represent 65% of building new submarine (as in this video below).

From other media before, with this overhaul will enable that 40 years old Submarine to be fit to
do operational duties for at least another decade. This give time for new submarine projects commencing up to launch of new ones.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Twitter. She's in French yesterday. Seems this's shown more Political momentum for engaging Frenchie for defense co-op as one of main co-op with them.

Thus momentum for Scorpene as the submarine to be work out by PAL is also getting momentum. As always defense procurement in Indonesia determine from where the Political momentum going.

should only celebrate it when the construction of the first Scorpène has started in France or Indonesia.
Off course, that's why I put on the term of 'momentum'. The competitors will still fight.

Xavier in his Twitter commented this article saying Scorpene is not a done deal yet. This article shown how ROK still fight, and also bring Political lobby from Armed Forces to Armed Forces connection.

Off course ROK navy and DSME actually now more talking on how to handle problem on existing batch 1 of DSME 1400. However not limited toward getting Batch 2 to continue.

Knowing the limited capacities of existing PAL submarine infrastructure, I don't think they can work on two type of Submarine licensing at same time.

Video from TNI-AL 2nd fleet command (Koarmada dua) on Scan Eagle shipborne integration. This with one of Van Speijk. From other media, it is talk the total Scan Eagle procured is 14, which seems combination of US Grant and FMS.

From two different Janes articles:
|"Boeing subsidiary Insitu has been awarded a USD9.9 million contract by the US Department of Defense (DoD) to supply the Indonesian government with the ScanEagle unmanned aerial system (UAS).
The contract, which will be executed via the US’ Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme, consists of six ScanEagle air vehicles, as well as equipment related to its operations and technical support services. Work on the contract is expected to complete in May 2022."|

|"Boeing subsidiary Insitu has received a USD47.9 million contract to supply 34 ScanEagle unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

According to a notice of award posted on the US Department of Defense's (DoD's) website on 31 May, the contract consolidates the purchases for these Southeast Asian countries under Washington's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme.

Under the programme Malaysia will receive 12 UAV units, while Indonesia and the Philippines will receive eight units each. Vietnam will receive six units of the system, which will be supplied with associated equipment, and technical support services.

Indonesia was slated to receive four units under the original FMS, but it was later revised to six in April 2019 after a request by the Indonesian government."|

That means the first 6 are a gift from the US, the other 8 are paid for by Indonesia, right?

That's the question that I'm not sure what is the exact composition of the procurement program.

This article from Jane's (that you already mentioned) talk about Indonesia got 8 allocation from US MSI (Maritime Security Initiative) program.

While local media talk in early 2020 on Parliement Defense commitee, agree for Indonesia taking 14 ScanEagle UAV as part of Grant plus 3 Bell 412. This is not clear which part of the 14 and the upgrade packages that were part of grant and which part of FMS financing. However seems the deals is combo on that.

Still I do tend to agree with you of 6 Grant and 8 part of FMS financing as the overall composition.

Some photos of KRI R.E. Martadinata 331 participating witht the Multilateral Naval Exercise Milan-2022 in India.

@Ananda .....psssst... someone is continuing his holy war against the unlicensed copy of U209 class submarine. |"But the stonewall is in the Ministry of Defense. As long as the minister say no, Indonesia won't waste another US$150 million to DSME."|

:-D
No you don't need to visit his page, i just want to tease you.

:D He's campaigning that basically DSME does not know how to build submarine, they done poor job quality, thus want to cut off PAL and DSME cooperation entirelly. Including the effort PAL and DSME to rectified electrical problem with the 3 DSME 1400 already build.

That's very foolish. DSME is the prime contractor for those 3 Subs, they are the ones who has the blue print on all electrical system in those Subs. Giving that to other contractor even TKMS not only potentialy costs more, but no guarantee it will be better then with the original contractor that is DSME.

He complaint that DSME has done some changes from TKMS design, so who knows better on rectified those Submarine system? TKMS or the original contractor DSME?

Further public announcement from Naval Chief as users, that they support Scorpene as next batch of Submarine. Seems they told the Korean (frim the way I read), they want something bigger than DSME 1400.

The Korean actually already put potential design of DSME 2000 in the table also. However seems MinDef want something more operationally proven as DSME 2000 still in paper only. Whether later on MinDef will shown interest to DSME KSS3, will have to be seen.

TNI-AL chief talk to media on the usage of Russian origin equipment. Most TNI-AL equipment that have Russian stuff are ex DDR fleet and Marines armoured vehicles. He say that TNI-AL will still use them as they are TNI-AL assets.

However he acknowledged there will be question to review on how to procure spare parts due to Western Embargoes. Problem now, Indonesian 'finance' people ussualy used of financing by USD international market line for foreign defense items procurement. They will need find something else to finance the procurement of spare parts without using USD line. It will potentially cost more.

Direct Rubel to IDR financing can be one alternative, or using Chinese Financial market as intermediaries, rather then Western market as before.

Still this will be interesting to see. How US want to block direct defense procurement for spare parts of existing assets for countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, or India. Especially the last two, that proportionately using much more Russian defense assets in their inventory. This is not also talking on Thailand Mi-17, or other South Asian nations that use Russian equipments.

Do US want to allieniate those nations ? They will not going to replace their Russian made equipment, unless US gave them 'grant' to do it. It's been talk that US want to give surplus AAV7 to Indonesian Marines. I believe it is one of US effort to coarce Indonesia left Russian equipment.

However how about the kind of India or Vietnam that use much more Russian equipement ? That's why I said in other thread, it is impossible for US and West to try other Non Western nation not trading with Russia. Heck even Turkey as Nato members will not severe their trade with Russia.

Indonesian media put article on 5 additional 60M patrol boats. The statement from TNI-AL shown it will have similar design with 6 Fast Missile Boats KCR-60 that already build by PAL. The difference mostly on armaments where the first 6 will have SSM and this 5 will be mostly Gun Patrol Boats.

For sometime some Indonesian shipyards already shown design of 60m patrol boats and 124m LPD on their online sites. Seems this indicating PAL will move the construction of Patrol Boats and LPD toward other shipyards, while they are going to focus on Frigate and Submarine.

Indonesia's 60m patrol boat has a 40mm gun. Dare I make any comparisons to a certain OPV?
Some Shipyards call this design PC-60 or OPV-60. It's basically KCR-60 design without SSM and tone down armament also in speed (28 knt in KRC-60 vs 24 knt in PC/OPV-60). It will be used by TNI-AL 1st fleet for Patrol duties mostly in Riau Islands - Malaca Strait.
