This slide already circulate for some time, base on TNI-AL team study and planed. There're some that later on (especially the target number of each type) being revise. Like Frigate from study 36, already being revise to more manageable 16, and OPV from 42 to 12. For that I believe this slide can be use more as reference for program path and not so much on target number, which will be adjusted more toward budget reality. This study aim to forecast plan up to 2040+.

I would like to focus on Corvette and OPV as those are the back bone for TNI-AL regardless the study plan for more Frigate and Destroyer. The plan National Corvette (Korvet Nasional) back to surface. This is the program that originate from PAL and Fincantieri early 2000 plan on building National Corvette in Indonesian yard base on Fincantieri design.

F_Cx30_c5901f322e.jpg20250626_140722.jpg

This two design that going to be the corner stone of Indonesian Navy Corvette and OPV program. The below model already 3 being build, while Fincantieri FCx-30 design is the one that Fincantieri offer to be build in Batam partner yard. So seems eventough before Fincantieri offer building PPA batch 2 on their partner yard, more talks now come out that FCx-30 is the design that Fincantieri offer to be build in Indonesia as part of Kornas program.

Kornas aim to replace 3+14 Fatahillah and Parchim class. It will strech out more than decade which is why refurbishment (R41) and interim program has to come to equation. Thus OPV 98 will not be the replacement according to this study, but aim for new type of class. Eventough the OPV share too much similarities with Corvette.

Also with FCx-30 that are having similar capabilities with PKR 105 Light Frigate, it is possible the corvette classification can basically include Corvette and Light Frigate types. Thus together by plan. Overall can be more then 18+12 in population. Again this shown how TNI-AL surfface combatan back bone still in OPV, Corvette and Light Frigate.

Indonesia Foreign Minister and Defense Minister will have 2+2 meeting with their Japanese counterparts. In April they also have 2+2 meeting with China Foreign and Defense minister. One of the results was and is the talk for S26T submarine as Interim Submarine with bonus grant of Type 053H3 Frigates.

Will the rumours going to be accurate that in this meeting Japan will counter offer China ones with Oyashio as Interim Submarine with bonus grant of Abukuma Destroyer Escort ?

Japan already shown move to counter China rising influences in ASEAN. Japan new PM clearly shown her more willingness to offer more direct approach on countering China influences. Will see how this goes.

From MinDef FB page. Minister of Defense as part of 2+2 meeting agenda, visit Yokosuka Naval Base. Visit Taigei class submarine, FFM class Frigate and being shown model and take tour on Asagiri class destroyer. The last one is also like Abukuma DE, one class that being rumoured going to be replace soon by JMSDF.

The four ministers welcomed that the two countries had advanced their cooperation in the field of maritime security since the second “2+2” meeting in 2021, including the provision by Japan to Indonesia of a large-scale patrol vessel through ODA (Official Development Assistance) as well as high-speed patrol boats through OSA (Official Security Assistance). The four Ministers shared the view that the two countries would further expand the cooperation in this field including through OSA.

The four ministers also welcomed the progress of many efforts made to date in such fields as joint exercises and exchange of human resources. Also, the four ministers concurred on further advancing the discussion between the defense authorities of the two countries including on defense equipment and technology cooperation based on the Agreement concerning the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology signed at the second “2+2” meeting. In addition, the four ministers also concurred on launching discussion between the defense authorities of both countries on the way to protect military information
The first paragraph more to the current cooperation mostly with Maritime Civilians Constabularies like Coast Guard, Custom and Fisheries. However the second one is new one as this is opening on defense equipment plus Tech Transfer agreement. Something that hindering defense Co-Op so far with Japan.

Keel laying for the 3rd OPV 90/98 at Noahtu Shipyard in Batam. So far private yards shown continue better productivity compare to state owned yards like PAL. Not means all goes well with Private yards, some of them have missmanagement history. Still lately they are increasingly shown better productivity time schedulle.

KRI Bung Hatta from TNI-AL photo showm lowering the aft ramp for RHIB training. This shown how in TNI-AL current practise, the line between OPV and Corvette is bluring.

KRI Bung Hatta being call Corvette and like KRI Haji Fissabillah OPV 90 class also being prepared Aft ramp for RHIB operation. All this shown both indigenous designs being prepared for similar functions.

There're some Indonesian Enthusiasts and forums that follow Frenchie Euro salesman that talk negatively on Turkification. However as OPV 90/98 shown, the trend is Italo-Turkiye stuff.

The R-ECM clearly similar with PPA:

The guns are Leonardo,

While Thales still got projects on existing Light Frigates/Corvettes upgrade. Clearly shown the talk of Turkification more and more just smeer campaign from loosing Salesman.

Not entirely clear yet how this deal really translate too. It is on surface talk building more then 1000 fishing vessels in which build on Indonesia yards with British yards assistances. However it is talk also on defense and security deal with Babcock leads. Are this means more FMP/Arrowhead 140 batches ?

Clearly Babcock will involve on design expertise on the deal, and further investments on Indonesian yards. The 1000 Fishing Boats programs already in talks for some time as part of food security and provide Indonesia fishermens better boats againsts foreign fishing vessels intrutions. Not clear yet how Babcock cooperation on Naval building.

All three Bung Tomo class Light Frigattes/Corvettes already being contracted for MLU upgrade. The second phase MLU upgrade (KRI Bung Tomo and KRI Jhon Lie) will be expected similar to the first ship of the class (KRI Usman Harun) that currently undergone MLU work at PAL.

When I saw the news about the Bung Tomo MLU upgrades, the question I have is which shipyard is going to do this.

The first one is already delayed, how is PT PAL expected to work on two more?

I don't see LEN, Thales and Nevesbu will have choices to work with other then PAL. Yes the private yards in Batam and Lampung like Noahtu, DRU, Palindo, Batamex, etc perhaps can take over the MLU project. However this means another set of learning curve adjustments.

At least PAL now already conducting MLU to KRI Usman Harun. Thus they are more prepared to conduct next stage MLU to the sisters ships. PAL continue bumbling on cash flow management. Still it is the primary SOE yards, that will continue get preference for Government Jobs.

UK has signed £4Bn maritime partnership with the Indonesian government.

Led by @Babcockplc the Maritime Partnership Programme (MPP) will see coastguard and fishery protection vessels built in Indonesia with UK assistance.

The deal will support about 1,000 British jobs, mostly at Rosyth.
UK media give indication that the maritime securities factors on the agreement is for Coastguard and Fisheries protection. The aspect on Naval cooperation is being speculate for another batch of FMP. Will see more clarification later on with this agreement.

A take look from the past. Got this photo circulating on local enthusiats forum. The photo it self originated from Australia National Archive.

This is one of TNI-AL Riga class Frigate (now more precise as Corvette), that seems doing exercise with RAN in 74

FB_IMG_1764463792646.jpg

Looking to TNI-AL data, they receive 8 Riga Class Frigate from USSR in 60's. 4 of them operate up to 70's where they are being replace by Claud Jones Frigate. While the last four operate until 80's where they are being replace by Parchim.

This one (KRI Lambung Mangkurat) according to record, also active on military operation against East Timor. Using its gun to bombard Fretelin possition in the beach of Dili.

Shown up to 80's era, some USSR source ship still being use. 2 of Whiskey class submarine also being maintain until the 80's. At one time in the middle of 80's, both operate together with 2 new 209-1300 from Germany. In the 80's then all ex USSR ships being retired when large procurement program in the 80's and up to early 90's shown some results.

Above is KRI Ahmad Yani, and below HMNLS Tjerk Hiddes. Same ship but operate on different time and operator. Photo originate from Indonesian Enthusiats forum.

However I put it not to talk much on this class as already talk much on this thread. However seems their replacement increasingly being talk will be another class of 2nd hand Frigates.

FFG-564-Yichang-02.jpg

6-7 of this being talk already got budget allocation. Potentially with Turkiye missiles and some systems adjustments. If this happening, shown MinDef quite serious to put Atmaca and Cakir as TNI-AL standard SSM.

Thus all new build Frigates (PPA, FMP and potentially Istif) going to be for new capacity building. While this type 053H3 going to fill as Ahmad Yani/Van Speijk class replacement as Patrol Frigate.

This indicating again how interim solutions will be connected with new build solutions for future development growth.

Keris FB shown 2 photo taken couple days apart. Some of the scaffolding by 1st of Dec (today) already being reduce. Noteably in the front section. Perhaps PAL can still meet the end of year target for this FMP#1.

Well with the MRO project take the Irian Graving Dock and other Floating Dock, this Semarang Graving Dock is the only facility left tp conduct new build assembly. They need to flood out this FMP#1 few months ago if they want to catch up with both UAE and Philipine LPD by next year.

From Keris FB,

FB_IMG_1764650015030.jpg

The mast clearly shown being prepared for Aselsan Cenk 350N radar, or what before in PAL official slides call Mete Han AESA radar.

20251202_113911.jpg

The radar seems not installed yet, but the mast already prepared the space for the AESA fixed plate modules.

Add:
There's still debate whether this Mete Han AESA radar will be Cenk 500N or Cenk 350N

FB_IMG_1764653681596.jpg

Personally I still see the plate array space that being prepare in the mast more fitting with Cenk 500N. However some comments in local Indonesia forum or Turkish forum also point out the dimensions more fitting toward Cenk 350N. (Corrected Cenk 350N seems more probable as this Mete Han radar).

Either way it is Aselsan Fixed Array AESA radar.

Note:

Seems Argument shown that Mete Han is Cenk 350N are stronger. So I corrected the earlier post that the mast fixed plate space are for Cenk 500N to Cenk 350N.
