The Su-75 was actually created to replace the MiG-29 for the export market, and for some countries which still use the MiG-21.
China already beat Russia on production of Fighters and infact any defense items. China already at least 5 times in size on industrial values chains, even in Aerospace. In fact at this rate, even US will have difficulty to keep pace on Chinese on Fightes production soon, let alone Euro Zone. Especially if Boeing military not handle their industrial chains problem soon.

Three engines, as suspected(?)
Seems so. Fast jet engine technology is still an advantage the West has over China and to a lesser extent Russia. Russia's situation wrt Ukraine may have provided China with some technology info from Russia to narrow the gap. Three engines versus two, a negative IMHO.
I suspect this aircraft is experimental and the actual aircraft - if or when it comes to fruition - might be quite different. If three engines don't work out they might go back to two. Indeed, jet engines is where the US/West and Russia out performs China - probably by a mile. I guess purloining engine designs and metallurgy that goes into it has faced hurdles. Until and unless China closes that gap its 6th gen project might just fall short of what is required. It would be good but not good enough.
The time that china simply reverse engineer things and copy them seems to be over. We don't know the exact role of these new aircrafts, and how advanced they really are from the inside. We don't even know which engines they use, but these incredible looking things you would expect only in videogames like Ace Combat.
Jet engines = Chinese aviation's achilles heel. Although they appear to have made improvements, but not enough to be seen as "ground breaking."
