Question Cambodian Civil War

Hi,

I've started to become interested in learning about the Cambodian Civil War. Personal curiosity, really. No academic or professional stake in it. What are some good books to start reading?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
A few books on Amazon, [ search- Cambodian War] not sure of the content of some of them though, maybe a start point?

“The Cambodian Wars” ;(Conboy)

“Why Vietnam Invaded Cambodia” (Morris)

The second book is not about the Civil War per see but relevant. Both are very good reads.

A couple of other suggestions:

1968-1975 Cambodian Civil War
  • Cambodian Civil War - Wikipedia gives a quick but good introduction.
  • Armed Groups in Cambodian Civil War: Territorial Control, Rivalry, and Recruitment (Yuichi Kubota, Palgrave Macmillan US 2013)
1978 Vietnamese Takeover
1972-1979 Third Indochina Conflict - sets the civil war in a broader geopolitical context.
  • Third Indochina War - Wikipedia gives a quick overview of the Third Indochina War
  • The Third IndoChina Conflict (W.P. Elliot (editor) published by Routledge originally by Taylor and Francis, 1981 but several later editions published). One of the sections covers the Vietnamese Invasion. And links it into the Vietnam War and the Sino-Vietnamese War.
  • The Third Indochina War: Conflict between China, Vietnam and Cambodia, 1972-79 (Westad Odd Arne, Quinn-Judge Sophie (editors) Routledge 2006)
I would also suggest researching Masters and PhD Theses on these and other related topics and CIA involvement (CIA activities in Cambodia - Wikipedia).

Have a great day. FP

A couple of relevant Theses, heaps more on the web and there are a few documents on the CIA (they and the opposition communists both intervened to protect their respective interests in Vietnam and Cambodia's institutions were destabilised):

1968-1975 Cambodian Civil War

1979 Vietnamese Takeover

1972-1979 Third Indochina Conflict - sets the civil war in a broader geopolitical context.

Some good references there....

Helion Company are due to publish a new title by Ken Conboy in the Autumn ' The Erawan War Volume 1' Although not Cambodia per say, it is about its neighbour Laos and the CIA.
