Fire and smoke fill the air as a Standard Missile 2 (SM-2) is launched from the aft Vertical Launching System (VLS) during a RIMPAC 2006 live fire exercise onboard USS O' Kane DDG 77. Eight nations are participating in RIMPAC, the world's largest biannual maritime exercise. Conducted in the waters off Hawaii, RIMPAC brings together military forces from Australia, Canada, Chile, Peru, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States.
