Three Russian nuke subs have come online. One is a new 885M, the Krasnoyarsk, another is the Irkutsk, the first of the upgraded 949AMs, and the third is the Smolensk, another 949A that underwent repairs surprisingly quickly (it went out for repairs in ~2019). For the Irkutsks, there remains some mystery if it got 48 or 72 Kalibr tubes to replace it's Granit. For the 885M, it's the third Yasen-M, and the fourth Yasen overall. 5 more of the type are under construction, and there is reason to think additional subs will get ordered.

At last.....on 8 July 2022 the Project 09852 submarine Belgorod, the longest submarine ever built and able to carry the huge Status-6/Poseidon nuclear-powered underwater torpedoes, has been handed over to the Russian Navy.

Russia is developing a new “aircraft carrier killer”, a ballistic missile with a hypersonic warhead with the name Zmeevik, for the Navy.

One of the sources told TASS that in terms of its characteristics, the Zmeevik resembles Chinese missiles of a similar class — DF-21D and DF-26 with a range of up to 4,000 km. So its probably some kind of enlarged Islander-M.

There's an interesting Raptor gunboat variant recently sighted with Kornet ATGMs and Afghanit APS. It's unclear how well one would use a beam-riding missile like that from the sea. I also can't help but wonder, if Afghanit is ready for use, is a boat really the best place for it?

A new 20380 corvette, the Merkuriy, started sea trials. The ship is meant for the Black Sea Fleet. If they had 3-6 of these before the war started, they may not have had to lose a cruiser.

Russia has officially cancelled plans for 6 more 22160 patrol ships. It only took one war, where they demonstrated their highly limited utility. If only anyone had known in advance... but how could they? A ship with no SAM, no AShM, and no anti-submarine gear, in a fleet with a desperate shortage of all modern surface combatants.

The Project 22160s are maybe very usable as patrolboats, maybe even very capable, but yes they are quite defenceless in a war situation.

Hopefully not yet posted before in this thread, but here we have some recent photos of Admiral Kuznetsov under maintenance.

HI Sutton article on news SSBN design from Rubin Bureau as follow up from current Borei SSBN. Alltough in this article he mention the chances of this design going to be build, however personally I'm not discounted yet.

Russian direction seems from what Russian defense analyst put will again put more emphasis on Submarine.

So even with Borei still in development in could be later on new design also being prepared. Right now Borei basically being tandem with Soviet originate Delta IV class SSBN. So it is probable Borei later on being tandem with new design SSBN.

|"The detailed design will be soon presented to Russia’s Defense Ministry for approval,”|

I don't know what "soon" is, but one thing is sure, the Russian Navy needs a replacement for the Project 1164 cruisers as fast as possible.

The Zaliv Shipyard in the city of Kerch in Crimea is currently building the Project 23900 versatile helicopter carriers Ivan Rogov and Mitrofan Moskalenko for the Russian Navy. The ships were laid down in 2020 and are developed by the Zelenodolsk Design Bureau, so it is unclear why the Nevskoye Design Bureau now presents a new design of an amphibious assault ship.

Seems this is the evolution design from what they have learn toward Mistral project with French. It is seems have more resemblence with Mistral then current 23900.

Current conflict not only shown Russian Navy problem with anti SSM defense, but also lack enough amphibious assets to storm more defensive cities like Odessa. Both 22350M and this 23900M seems their answer for that.

They'd need a lot of LHDs to take a city like Odessa, & the LHDs would be within range of a lot of anti-ship missiles. I doubt the Russian navy is even dreaming about a fleet like that.

Well Russian are not what you can call always thinking on logical term. Take a look on Putin directive for Russian fleet building:

Instead go more on under water capabilities to off set Western supremacies on surface flotilla (as rationaly thinking), they are 'still' aiming for larger presences in Mediterranean surface and this means Black Sea also. So..is this rational ? Well it's in the end still debatable.

Can they afford for all of that ? Even if this war outcome's in their advantage, I highly doubtful for all this directive as Putin put. They should go with more Subs on fleet denials, and more litoral fleet to safe guards those Subs on the area where they're most vulnerable, in the base.

Submarines are something Russia is good at, especially SSKs and their latest SSN/BNs are pretty decent. Best naval bang for the ruple is underwater.

Update.

Two new 22800 small missile ships are on trials. While they're not the most impressive ships, they're definitely better then the 21631s. They have better seaworthiness and carry a navalized Pantsyr.

Another 636.3 sub, the Magadan, has joined the Pacific fleet. It's the 3rd improved Kilo in the Pacific fleet. While Russia has almost no way to replace major surface combatants, Russia can produce small vessels just fine. It's likely the future of the VMF will look more like this.

The first border guard patrol icebreaker was launched for the FSB. It mirrors two similar ships being built for the VMF, which appear to be stuck, with handover dates for ~2025.

After the heavy use, and losses, of Raptor patrol boats near Zmeiniy Island, Russia has shown off an upgraded version of the boat carrying a variant of the Afghanit APS, the same one used on the Armata series, and two Kornet-D blocks.

Another look at the 23900 landing ship model. Good question being whether it will ever get built.

This november seems to be the month of survey/research vessels. After the launch of "Ikshak" for the Indian Navy on 26 November 2022 and after "Zr.Ms Hydrograaf" joins the Royal Netherlands Navy, Project 19920 hydrographic survey boat Anatoly Knyazev recently joined the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy.

Project 19920 large hydrographic boats are multifunctional vessels with a wide range of capabilities. They are designed to conduct hydrographic survey of the seabed and water areas and service coastal facilities of the Navy’s navigation and hydrographic support system.

The Anatoly Knyazev is regarded as a "large hydrographic boat", but with a length of 36,4 m it is quite small compared to other Russian research/survey vessels. It is also completely unarmed, so performing surveys near the coast of Odessa wouldn't be a smart move at this moment.

Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, Commander-in-Chief of VMF has reported that the VMF "successfully completed all the tasks of combat and operational training set for 2022". As H I Sutton states does this include the sinking of the Slava Class cruiser Moskva?

So the Russian Navy had planned a SINKEX for 2022, so nice of the Ukrainians to provide the Missiles and make it so realistic.
