EUROPEAN PATROL CORVETTE:
  • Around 3300 tons
  • A limited warship optimized for surface warfare and able to counter airborne attacks as well as undertake anti-submarine missions.
  • A limited warship for lengthy missions (10,000 nautical miles at 14 knots) that can conduct surface warfare missions.
  • An offshore patrol vessel in various configurations.
Sounds more like a heavy multipurpose frigate.
I dont call this 'limited'.
Funny, sounds to me like an enlarged aviso, which would make sense for some of the countries involved.

Video from Xavier interview with SAAB Kockums CEO. Besides talking on SAAB Kockums overall, more on Submarine. It's not much new except the CEO talk on 2 submarine export project which are with Damen as for replacement Walrus project. He's quite optimistic on that, also G to G talk between Sweden and Poland on Poland taking 2 ex Sweden Submarines.

On the other hand, he also mentioned that they are doing MLU for 2 Swedish Submarines. Thus make me wonder that the two submarines that being conducted MLU are the ones being discussed with Poland to transfer.
This perhaps Swedish move to make it possible for them to standardise all their Subs to A26.

The submarines in MLU at Saab are HSwMS Gotland (delivered back to the navy in May) and HSwMS Uppland (being delivered back "soon"). The MLU for the two Gotlands has been quite protracted, with deliveries originally planned for 2018 and 2019 when the contract was signed five years ago; it's mostly the sea trials that took a full year (!) after completion of the upgrades for each ship until the Navy was happy. The third Gotland class submarine, HSwMS Halland, has an option for a MLU as part of that contract, although given the high cost i doubt it'll be exercised.

The negotiations with Poland were for the Södermanland class.

Don't need to be. These boats are the daughterboats to be carried on the new 95m survey vessel being built to replace SAS Protea. Two boats (plus a seaboat also being built) go on the ship, third survey boat is a spare to be laid up on land.

For specs of the survey ship see:

It's a slightly enlarged version of the British Echo class hydrographic survey vessels, rebuilt to accomodate the concept SAS Protea runs with two survey boats and adding in a helicopter deck. Construction is locally at Sandock Austral Shipyards, design comes from Vard Marine (Canada, owned by Fincantieri), equipment is mostly by Kongsberg, armament (machine guns) procured locally from Reutech. Currently 60% complete, delivery of the ship is planned for 2022.

The GA-ASI MQ-9B SeaGuardian has conducted a maritime surveillance persistence demonstration above the sea lanes off the Californian (US) coast. It's onboard sensors included:
  • the GA-ASI Lynx® Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR),
  • a Raytheon Intelligence & Space SeaVue Expanded Mission Capability (XMC) radar,
  • a Raytheon Intelligence & Space Multi-Spectral Targeting System,
  • a Leonardo Electronic Support Measure (ESM)/Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) SAGE 750,
  • a Shine Micro Automatic Identification System (AIS),
  • an Ultra sonobuoy receiver and,
  • a General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada sonobuoy processor.
It is compliant with STANAG 4671 (NATO Airworthiness type-certification standard for UAS) and its operationally proven collision-avoidance radar, enables flexible operations in civil (including ICAO) airspace.

The OPV trend. This's just my personal OPV's opinion, but I do tend to think OPV's should belong to Coast Guard and not Navy.
Coast Guard is in reality already become quasi Navy anyway. Still the duty of coast guard seems more appropriate for function of OPV's handle by them and not Navy.

I know not all nation has capabilities to build decent Coast Guard, and some who has seems decided not to build it due to organization issue, don't want to differentiate maritime security jurisdiction, and also Manning issue.
Again it's just my personal opinion, perhaps because I tend to differentiate the Navy to focus on defense while other maritime security and SAR function done by Coast Guard.

They've built missile boats, ice-hardened polar research vessels, icebreakers, & OPVs, as well as ferries.

Technically there is no business continuity between the previous Finnyards-/Aker-/STX-owned Rauma shipyard and the current Rauma Marine Constructions.

The new company owners - who leased the shipyard from the city of Rauma, who bought it from STX - on the technical side were related to another shipyard located in Uusikaupunki. which has mostly been building specialized small civilian vessels such as pilot boats, but more recently over the last twenty years also small patrol boats up to about 30m length (for various government agencies, mostly for export) and some larger offshore supply vessels and ferries.

The NNS Lana A499 was recently launched in France.
The NSS Lana is from OCEA's OSV 190 SC-WB hydrographic and oceanographic research vessel design. Two ships of the same design was exported by OCEA to Indonesia as KRI Rigel 933 and KRI Spica 934.

I agree that the third Gotland class submarine will not be upgraded given the progress of the A26 design customisation efforts in the various submarine tenders.

In resale market news, Sweden seems to have made a strong effort to be the preferred bidder to supply submarines to Poland.

Anadolu Shipyard Launches First Training Ship For Qatari Navy
Turkey's Anadolu (ADIK) Shipyard launched today "Al Doha" (QTS 91), the first of two cadet training ships for the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces (Qatari Navy). Turkish and Qatari defense ministers both attended the event.

link to article: Anadolu Shipyard Launches First Training Ship for Qatari Navy - Naval News

The two Cadet Training Ships are approximately 90 meters in length with a full load displacement of 1.950 tonnes. Really impressive for such a small navy.

SH Defence from Denmark have bought out an interesting product called The Cube. It's designed to fit in a ships mission bay and can re-role a ship in four hours and is plug and play. It has the footprint of ISO containers so can be transported by sea, air, truck or rail using military or commercial services. It definitely has promise and isn't a silly idea.

Looks like a cube type system will have merit for both the Arafura and Hunter Class.
I would imagine if the Arafura Class can house 20' TEUs both under and on the flight deck for a total of four containers, then this system will greatly enhance the ships ability to respond to a wide range of contingency's.

One to watch

A nice design with a 360° view from the bridge. Actually every navy with submarines should have a submarine resque ship.

Interesting story from Naval News about 155 mm mobile wheeled howitzers being utilised for coastal defence in an anti ship role. It certainly raises some good points and mentions the use of a 155 mm HVP being fired from a 155 mm howitzer shooting down a high speed target drone.
