One of my favorite self defense techniques is the headbutt. It's more devastating than strikes because the skull has more surface area and much stronger. It leads to instant knock out. Headbutts to the face can cut people's faces, break cheekbones, break teeth, break noses, etc. besides knocking out. Even if you don't knock out your attacker, the blood on his/her face will likely blind him/her. Headbutts are hard to see coming so they're hard to counter.

Also known as a Liverpool kiss, but used more as an offensive move rather than defensive - well that's how I've used it and had it used on me back in the dim dark days of my ill spent youth. However, having said that, if done right it can be a fight winner. A British style belt with brass buckles was great in a street or pub fight too. Trouble was Constable Plod had a habit of interfering, which was highly inconsiderate of them.

I had a classic interaction with PC plod a few years ago when we were trying to move their cars to a data driven platform with a 3G point of presence, data tablet, federated search on social media etc

One of the older hands was really protesting the removal/deletion of these old bakelite phones from the cars - really large cumbersome objects which were massively over constructed.

After many discussions and project meetings regarding this we finally managed to extract the admission that they were really useful if a suspect in the car kicked off as you could really give them a battering with the handset.

We deleted the item without much comment after that (although I can offer some stories about officers using tablets as defensive aids...)

Yes, the good old fashioned headbutt can be devastating if well executed. The technique has been heavily refined on the Burmese Lethwei circuit. David Leduc is one of the few westerners to have competed in it extensively:

How did you use it? How was the brass knuckles used? How did the constable plod interfere?

Depends on the situation. And it was brass brass buckles not knuckles.

But now I am putting my Moderators hat on and asking, what is really the point of this thread? As far as I can see it serves no real useful purpose in advancing the knowledge and professionalism of the forum members.

A headbutt is an possible action when engaged in unarmed or close combat. But I am not sure how useful it is as a ‘strategy,’ especially against a skilled opponent. There are risks to be managed even when a skilled practitioner uses such a technique — there is some reluctance to allow such an unbalanced discussion, given the risk of injury to the user.

Pending Mod Team discussion, thread closed.
