North & South Korea Exchange Artillery Fire

After having read as much as I can here and on some other sites i popped over to the sino defence forum to see what they were talking about as Web said they shared the same views about military topics as this forum does, My earlier post of well they might want a unified Korea was from their posts far into the way of a fantasy land on my part. They viewed this as we should attack and then when NK is losing close our boarder going one way and roll to Seoul with T-96 and if US forces die well then we will deal with the USA also with nukes, I'm sure this was just a hot-headed response on a touchy subject but they seem to be willing to go all the way to ensure that DRPK would win and establish the same type of govt in the south as the north or unified under NK leadership. Some of the names over there were familiar and seemed like voices urging moderation and some were not (seeming more hawk like). Having said that I don't know the personalities over there and the cultural differences this might just be a little nationalistic saber rattleing ( it is the sino defence forum so a pro china view from there is I should hope encouraged) but seems alittle bit over the top. Either way if the sino-d-f is an indicater of majority of PRC opinion then re-unified Korea is a long way off unless PRC doesnt join in which they look like they are willing to do, (They seem to have calmed down after the first 10 pages or so, and are now back to a more even keel.)

Reason, a thriving economic power gets bullied by its poor neighbor....sinking ships, shelling cities- those are just 2 published attacks, Im sure there would be unpublished acts of espionage, direct or indirect by both sides probably. But the north is constantly sabre rattling, not only to South Korea, but the West in general, missile launches aimed to intimidate Japan, and mothing off about the US being in range etc. Sooner or later, North Korea will have its nuke toys taken away. I think eventually, we will see a peaceful unification, much like East Germany.
God I hope not. Eastern Germany has yet to recover from the hit it took as a result of reunification. And the DPRK is in a far less advantageous position. A German-style reunification would mean hundreds of thousands of refugees (if not millions), as well as massive internal upheaval, social instability, and a huge burden for the RoK.

and frg-gdr was very different from rok-dprk,
just take a look at the relative differences in population, coupled with the relative difference in development...
besides, su was going down, while china is clearly going up...
and so on...

its only slightly more than business as usual

If anything the DPRK would be a more challenging integration question then the GDR.

Defenitely.
The GDR still had the highest living standard in the whole WarPac and the population never got as seperated from their western cousins as it is the case with SK and NK.
People in GDR were healthy, well fed, well educated and often had regular contact to relatives in the west. The eastern people were also not as communized (is this a word?) as it is the case in NK

The already mentioned disparity in size and population were also favorable.

That we managed to unite against all odds without bloodshetting and against the will of our "friends" from France and Britain (remember that when our allies are again asking for more support from Germany) is maybe one of the biggest achivements the Germans ever managed.

Nothing of this is present in NK.
Can anyone here imagine the people from NK protesting peacefully in the streets and the guys in charge not letting them feel the iron fist of the regime?

Everything you say is true but Korea will be reunited someday and the South Koreans’ may not be looking forward to that day but they are resigned to that fact.
