Help with Research Paper

Goodevening guys,

I am an NCC Cadet Officer and I am involved in writing a paper with the inquiry question

" With the move away from symmetric warfare, new forms of warfare have become a moot point in recent debates. This paper seeks to analyse the war in places not usually fought over. How is the military adapting its role to fit into a world where lines are not clearly drawn? "

Any comments and/or information would be welcome especially about the SAF.

Thanks!

I'd suggest you take a look and read the doctrinal statements put out by the USAF, and other branches of the US military in recent years. They make some interesting points about how the US military is responding to the growing War on Terror, but also on its emphasis on conventional warfare.

It is somewhat short-sighted to focus solely on COIN and counter-terror operations to the detriment of conventional preparedness. Doing both is very stressful for many armed forces, but the realities of the present make it unwise to neglect preparedness in either sector.

It seems to me like it isn't a "move away from symmetric warfare," but rather a concurrent growth in the prevelance of assymmetical warfare which has arisen alongside the evolution and continued importance of conventional warfare.
