i dont know if they were aiding Egypt but maybe Jordan, the RAF plane was a recon plane, in 1949 5 more British recon spitfire's were
shoot down, all 6 were spying on Israel, the first one was spying on an Israeli air base, the other 5 were shoot down above the Israeli-Egyptian border, you need to remmember that in that time the British aided Jordan.
Oh dear. Do some fact checking.

1 Mossie shot down over Israel (BTW, if the crew had survived, they should have been court-martialled - flying too low, & too dozy to notice the P-51 struggling slowly up to intercept them. They could easily have evaded it, if they'd been awake). Recce for the RAF, without govt. authorisation for overflights. There were ructions over that. The local RAF boss was in big trouble. This one could, perhaps, be classed as "spying on Israel". The Mossie shouldn't have been there & the Israelis were within their rights to shoot it down.

4 Spitfires & a Tempest shot down over Egypt. The Spitfires were on a recce over Egypt (permitted) when they saw burning vehicles & went to take some pictures. It was an Israeli convoy (in Egypt) which had been attacked by REAF Spitfires. Understandably, the Israelis on the ground shot at them, & shot one down. The others were then jumped by Israelis, fortuitously among their best pilots, who shot down the other three. One killed. The Israeli pilots misunderstood the situation, & thought the RAF planes (which they initially thought were Egyptian) were attacking the convoy. "Spying on Israel"? Might as well say spying on Egypt. A tragic misunderstanding.

The Tempest was looking for the missing Spitfires. Most definitely not "spying on Israel"!

The EAF has 29 confirmed kills against the IAF in 1973 alone.

Here's the link: http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_271.shtml
Very not true.

As familier as I am with the Israeli Defence Forces and specially with the IASF which I currently serve in, I can truly say that as far as we know, 5 Israeli jets was shut down during dog fights.

I do not know where Acig.org get their information from, but it is totally false. Some of the " shut downs " written in there are completly ridicolous.

Have you looked at www.acig.org other pages?! They are very pro-Israeli.

By the way what do you fly for the IAF?

I really don't care whether Acig is pro-Israeli or not, the information they got is false. I havn't said I blame them.

And generally, I fly UAV's.
Please prove to me that the information on there is false and I will believe you (and please don't just give me a link to Israeli propaganda saying you only lost 5 planes to enemy planes since Israel's creation).

I have examined the site listed and there appears to be some inconsistencies with the data. According to the site there were between 21-25 Nesher aircraft losses suffered by the IDF/AF in 1973. Also listed on the site for the Nesher were construction totals of 61 of all variants, and only around 15 Neshers lost in the period between 1971-1980, for all causes. Given that inconsistency, it leads from there that the other numbers given on the site can be problematic as well.

As for an accurate tally of IDF/AF combat losses from the 1973 Yom Kippur War, I would suggest desisting in trying to locate such a figure that can be "proven" to all parties concerned. Given the topic there will be those inclined to accept a low figure only, and there will be those inclined to only accept a high figure. With both sides likely to dispute numbers that don't agree with their respective views amid claims of "propaganda", it becomes not unlike a this vs. that thread which is against forum policy.
