Four months wait after being selected and the ADF says it is having recruiting difficulties! What a farce? :shudder

I'm glad you've got more patience than me pocklypse. I'd be off to get a job somewhere else by now! Perhaps it’s a test to make sure that only the keenest applicants join. :D Good on you for hanging in.

Cheers

Is this not beauty?

AGRA, any info on type/nation/calibre/location for those airbursts?

Napolean heard a man say "god favours our cause."
Napolean replied "God favours the cause which has the most artillery."
Likewise, Brycec, any source on that? :) It's an awesome quote, but I'm searching google for validation and can't find it said by anyone, much less Napoleon (though it does sound like something he would have said).

Should be swedish Bofors FH77A 155mm.

Here are some other pics from this shooting. :)

BTW, I also knew this quote. Our artillerymen got not tired to bombard us with such quotes... :D

The picture is from Sweden, Karlskoga the home of Bofors, and was taken with a special high speed camera. I have plenty of photos of Aussie arty hitting targets but its no where near as exciting.

What's happening is two 155mm bombs/shells/grenades (depending on your terminology) are 'Prox' detonating. Prox stands for proximity and is a method where either a mechanical timer or a radar/laser is used to detonate the shells above the target to spray it with splinters (commonly mislabelled 'shrapnel' but this is actually an older technique of developing fragments from a shell) from above. As you can see from the very acute angle between the flight path of the shells and the ground the rounds have been fired from extreme range, probably >25km. It is much better to have the rounds descend from above to get a better on target distribution of splinters.
Data on picture was in the thread.

4 months is pushing it. Did you choose that cause i recall they give you 4 options
ARTC gets a platoon every week and 2 every fortnite, and that was before expansion, but they might have changed that with extension of Advanced module into regular Training, turing 45+ 35 Days into 80 with reserves doing 28
This could mean Army is getting plenty of recruits in, then again, nelson said he wanted the 6 months of processing made into 6 weeks, nothing about how long it would take you to leave...

It takes so long to get into the ADF at the moment, its no wonder they are having recruitment difficulties.
I rang them up in about mid March and had to wait untill the 2nd of May just for a JOES day.
On the JOES day they said even for a critical job the quickest someone could get in at the moment would be atleast 3 months from their JOES.

Who are these people and why have they been given the recruitment task?

People who applied from a newspapers advertisement cause it looked like fun:rolleyes:

I've had a shocker with the civies in DFR, i had a Petty officer take over my application and all of a sudden things have happened.
A complete change of the DFR, which i suspect AD would be more then happy with, would increase applications. If people could get through the process more efficently, note efficently not faster, then less people would be inclinded to get another full time job instead.

Joining Australian Army - Officer Board in 6 Days

G'day, I'm new to these forums as of 5 minutes ago. My name is Dylan and I am in the process of becoming an officer with the Australian Army. Hopefully I can serve with the RAAC after Duntroon.

But before all that; I am yet to attend the Officer boards in Canberra as the final part of the recruitment process. I was just wondering if anyone can give me an indication on anything really hehe. I've already had a ride in an ASLAV with the 2/14th Light Horse at Enoggera, and have really just fell in love with the ASLAV.

After speaking with several serving RAAC Lieutenant's and a Captain, I am 100% sure that the RAAC is a solid option for me. If anyone had any good resources for me to visit that would be great, and I'll let you all know how I fare as of a week from now.

Thanks.

Thanks for the link, I actually looked at it before but it turned out to be more about the Royal Regiment Australian Artillery.

Mod edit: threads merged so don't get "freaked out" by your posts appearing here. It's a "tricky" mod thing. This thread is about joining RAAC whether as an officer or a Dig and it's appropriate to post your comments in here.

Good luck with your chosen profession.

Regards

AD.

hey icelord,

from what i have been told by DFR is that the posistion i am applying for ( operator weapon locating radar ECN 271 ) has no targets available now and at least until the 28th of august so i have to wait unless as i was told today someone who is at kapooka now doing there basic training and is applying for the same position drops out for what ever reason then im in. apparently im on whats called the reccomended ready list which means im good to go just waiting for a position to come up. i certainly didnt want to wait for 4 months.

i completed another PFA today and was told i dont need to come back until august to do another one...
