Hi,

Does anyone have recent data on the status of the US Army XM307/317 OCSWS and the XM25 GL projects? I can't seem to find anything more recent than 2005. Are they still being worked on, or are they going the way of the FCS?

Thanks,

Adrian

Dude the XM312/307 was canceled back in early 2007. The XM312 was killed because it had a low rate of fire and did not impress the troops. Same goes for the XM307 with no funds for it in the 2008 or 2009 defense budget. As for the XM25 I have no idea but I don't think it will enter service anytime soon if at all. They were nothing special and the current M2 and MK-19 with bigger rounds and a much higher rate of fire are far deader than these not so great plastic toys. I'm glad they were binned.

I don't think there will be much interest in the 25mm XM weapons going forward. There's already a number of 40mm alternatives that include a wide range of munitions eg m397 ab, ap, at, M1060 thermobaric etc.

An example is the use of the M32/M140 GL. Another is the HK M320 which will replace the M203.

There are also 19kg light weight 40mm AGLs equivalent to the XM307 in the market. Adoption probably won't happen.
I agree why use 25mm when there are more powerful 40mm right?:flash Also the MK-47 is another 40mm GLMG used by some SF I think.
