General Dynamics Awarded $7.1 Million for Continued Development of Advanced Crew-Served Weapon

(Source: General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products; issued Feb. 16, 2004)

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics, received two increments totaling $7.1 million as part of a $63.8 million sole-source contract for the continued development of the XM307 Advanced Crew-Served Weapon (ACSW) system.

This award, from the U.S. Army's Product Manager Crew- Served Weapons and Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command - Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, extends the scope of work through December 2004 and funds the continued maturation of the weapon, additional ammunition testing, and fire control improvements under the Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) contract.

The XM307 is an accurate, two-man portable weapon system. Its family of airburst and armor-piercing ammunition, combined with an advanced target acquisition fire control sight developed by Raytheon, make the weapon extremely effective against lightly armored vehicles and targets protected by barricades. The award increments were issued on Dec. 23, 2003 ($5.5 million) and Dec. 31, 2003 ($1.6 million).

The system can be quickly and easily converted to a 12.7mm machine gun. GDATP is the prime contractor with total system integration.

Feed System Weapon-Mountable Ammunition Can (Right/Left Feed)

.50-Caliber (12.7mm) Machine Gun

Currently being developed by General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products (GDATP), the XM312 is a lightweight, portable 12.7mm machine gun that provides increased accuracy, effectiveness, and lethality over current heavy machine guns. GDATP is the prime contractor with total system integration.

Specifications :
System
Weight 42 Pounds (19 kg) (Gun and Mount)
Portability Two-Man Portable & Vehicle Mountable

Thats the 25mm. I've got some other shots but can't post them. (non url pics)

The muzzle/flash suppresor on the 25 is interesting - very different from other breaks I've seen and used.

Okey dokey.

XM 307 25mm CSW

XM 307 .50 Cal CSW

Oh man that .50 is gonna rip apart anything which is lightly armoured. GF you wrote solo shot in the .50 one's name, does it mean that it is semi-automatic???

No, I used "solo" to identify it as a weapons only photo - no crew in the pic. ;). Although I don't see why it could not be used as a semi-auto.

And you're right..I haven't seen that kind of suppressor before.
There are 3 types of recoil that a ballistic weapon goes through when it is fired, from the design of that suppressor it deals with two of the recoil variables.

Its very similar to a suppressor system that I was involved with a few years ago, but that weapons solution never reached the market. The company I was contracted to would be a little interested I think, as we did do trials in front of US/UK/French/German and Russian military reps.

The aussie inventor might have been ripped off a little. :)
