Two philosophies of ejection, one being to eject through the canopy after it's been shredded by det cord and t'other being to pop the canopy with explosive bolts and eject once it's been shed. Seats designed to eject through the canopy usually have seat rails designed to impact the canopy before the pilot gets there and almost always have a face curtain which is snatched down as part of the ejection process, covering and protecting the pilots face as the det cord goes off.
