Why does the bootcamp of British ROyal Marine take so long ??

Just wondering, how come British Royal Marine boot camp takes 30 weeks ????? As far as I know, most boot camps take only around 7 weeks, right?

this is only a guess but possibly because the British Marines are more specialised and would incorporate their Initial Employment Training into the recruit (bootcamp) training???

Exactly. All Royal Marines do the same course comprised of Basic training and "initial employment training". Whether they be officers or OR's. All of them (irregardless of their actual occupation within the RM) are trained as rifleman right from the very beginning. They then move onto specialised areas with the RM, but are infantry trained at the start.

30 weeks is a long course, but it's not much longer than the Australian Army system for Infantry which is now (I believe) 28 weeks. No doubt they get a bit of leave between phases...
