Well, I believe the tantrum initiated above Hegseth. But it certainly appears so.
I'll add the my assumption the this withdrawal will target 2nd Cav Rgt (SBCT) was based on various reporting and statements stressing the current permeant troop strength in German.
Still waiting on clarity if it will from the permanently stationed forces or in fact a reduction of one of the two rotational Armored Brigade Combat Teams
I'll add that if this does lead to the removal of 2nd Cav Rgt from Germany that SBCT in more than likely going to cease to exist. As there is really nowhere to move an entire BCT (troops/equipment/families) back in the US. There is simply facilities to move them into. Not in a 6-12 month time frame. Troops likely individually reassigned to other units. They could even leave the equipment in German as preposition stock.
There are some legal controls enacted by the US Congress that would require their approval if the Europe based troop strength drops below a certain level, and removal of equipment back to the states. The withdrawal of 5.000 personnel should not trigger congressional involvement, but removing a brigades worth of vehicles certainly will.

Already posted to the US Army threadReporting announces that Department of Defense has directed the withdrawal of 5000 US troops from Germany.
Defense News has reported that a Brigade Combat Team will be withdrawn.
To me this suggests 2nd Cav Rgt (SBCT), as the other european based BCT is the 173rd Abn, which while having units based in Germany is headquartered in Italy

This news certainly seems to suggest those 5,000 troops being withdrawn from Germany will be from the rotational units, and not units permanently stationed there.
So good chance 2nd Cav Rgt is safe (for now)

OK, bottom line up front:
I don't have clue what is going on, and I'm pretty sure there isn't anyone who really does.
For some additional context, Nawrocki has been President of Poland for nearly a year no, assuming office in Aug. 2025.
So to be clear:
3 Weeks ago the Dept of Defense announced the reduction of 5,000 troops from Germany. Without ever identifying the units involved other than that it would be a "brigade combat team"
1 week ago the Department of the Army announces that it is cancelling the rotational deployment of 2nd ABCT, 1st Cav Div. in addition to the cancelled deployment of a long range fires battalion for assignment with 2nd Multi-Domain Task Force in Germany.
2nd ABCT, 1st Cav Div was to replace 3 ABCT, 1st Cav Div whose 9 month deployment was coming to a close. 2nd ABCTs advance party was already in Europe and it's equipment was enroute.
And today President Trump announces an additional (?) 5,000 troops will be sent to Poland. In response to the President of Poland being elected a year ago(?).
No clarifying announcements have come from the US military.
So, absolutely clear as mud.

The Trump Administration is proposing a massive expansion of Defence spending from just under $1 Trillion currently to about $1.5 Trillion for the next financial year. The reality is any increase in Government spending is unaffordable.
Total US Debt is about to pass $40 trillion.
Due to rising interest rates on Government debt, annual interest payments have tripled from $400 billion 5 years ago to roughly $1.2 trillion for this financial year. That interest bill is likely to rapidly rise towards $2 trillion a year. Why? Because as current bonds mature, with interest rates of 1- 3% they are being replaced with new bonds with interest rates in the 4 - 5.25% range. So the interest bill will be maybe $500 Billion larger next year.
All of those extra interest payments will be made by borrowing even more money. So the US Government is borrowing money to pay the interest on the debt it already has.
So the idea of increasing annual Defence spending by half a trillion dollars, all of which will have to be borrowed, is ridiculous.
The reality of this is made stark by the US Government balance sheet for July 2026. Yes it is a particularly bad month but it gives an idea of the financial hole the US Government is in!

i put this here as in the heading there is a comment about the US DOD . Recently i placed a comment and link in another thread stating that it may make a suitable medium range maritime patrol aircraft considering its heritage. Looks like the company that is trying to flog this aircraft thinks this as well. It has it listed as doing SAR, Patrol and a whole bunch of other tasks as well trying to promote the multi role thing

I guess this article explains why the US needs a trillion dollar plus defence budget. With cluster-&uck performance like this, multiple programs are needed in the hope one is successful. GD management and their government overseers should be shot and pi$$ed on.

The Dep of War also recently confirmed a 632M dollars contract to CSG (the second largest ammunition producer in Europe after Rheinmetall) to build a new ammunition plant in Iowa (with a preliminary contract signed in 2025).
From what I know, early preparatory works started in July, but it's still a long way to go.
Shell production in Russia, China and Europe is skyrocketing with much smaller budgets...

Gulf of America, (potentially) “Straight” of America, now Lake America… Golden statues… President Donald J Trump International Airport (as well as a Boulevard and an Avenue, all in Florida), etc… Now threatening to demolish the Kennedy Center if Trump’s name does not (again!) appear on the building… Trump on a dollar coin… Buildings of Departments of Justice, Agriculture, and… can’t recall at the moment, display giant banners with Trump’s portraits… Federal agencies instructed to display portraits of Trump… Going back to Covid checks singed by Trump, of course… I must be forgetting numerous other things.
I wonder if he heard of Turkmenistan and Turkmenbashi, Niyazov, then Berdimuhamedov, etc. He should visit Ashgabad and the rest of the country. Soooo much inspiration to take in. And I really mean it, while there are competitors, no one even comes close. It really is his forte.
In the meantime, the man is destroying everything that actually made America great on the world stage, decades of building and careful maintaining, turning all into a big freaking joke. Allies and partners… Are there any? I guess Argentina?

A lot of reaction, it appears, Is as if the guy is Americanbashi and is here to stay till he is taken out in his coffin (which is quite likely, to be fair, but “whichever comes first” still applies). What is up with that?

The mid-term election results won't stop Trump's BS but a Democratic House majority will likely start the exodus of all the rats in his administration who fear the forth coming House hearings into their very questionable activities. A huge gravy train for DC lawyers.
He's met Kim Jong-Un, & praised him. I suspect the Kim dynasty of god-kings is his inspiration. He may not have heard of Turkmenbashi.
