Thanks for the infos. :)

I can imagine that in a theater like Iraq the normal combat load of small arms is raised due to the special circumstances.

In iraq are crewman wearing body armour? is this standard practice?
They are supposed to be, but after they are out of the wire (perimeter) some of them get into the habit of taking it off due to the temperature inside of the tanks.

... is that a combat march? with like 40 pounds of weight? or like cross-country somewhere out in the desert?

Because otherwise that's a rather slow walk.
They must have slowed the walk to allow for sight seeing. I know 1 person (not me) who decided to do the walk on his 1st BFA after turning 41. He swore never again. The run was easier to pass than the walk, & he's infantry. Bugger breathing diesel fumes all day, but a 2nd class ride is better than a 1st class walk any day.

This is a bit off topic but can someone tell me the personal weapons that crewman are issued for the Abrams in the ADF and the US, thanks...
In addition to each crewmember carrying an M9 and the 1-2 M4's, the US Army has begun fielding "dismount" kits for the loader's M240 that include a buttstock, pistol grip, bipod, etc. that allows the MG to be used as an infantry MG.

I'd hate to have to wear IBA inside the tank. In addition to the heat/comfort issue, IBA (especially with any ammo pouches, etc. attached) would make ingress/egress for the gunner & driver all that more difficult - especially for emergency bail out i.e. EFP hit now tank on fire. Then again, I wouldn't want to find myself "bailed out" in a bad siuation without my IBA on....

I wonder if there is any plans to come up with an updated vehicle crew body armor system to replace the old lightweight vests?

Might I suggest a dictionary. I thought you had to have good passes in English & maths to join the ADF. If the education system is passing this level of English I feel sorry for the country.

In response to your questions, get hold of the army talcum powder. I find it works better than anything on the open market. Savlon cream is fantastic if you do chafe & if you come down with jock rot.

Wear bike pants & not jocks. They keep everything comfortable & minimises chafing. I used to get jock rot all the time until I started wearing bike pants (the lycra ones).

Also make up your own 1st aid kit with cotton wool, micro pore tape (get that from a pharmacy), band aids, savlon cream, army foot powder & tweezers.

Dat

The good thing about being a DAT( distinguished armored technician) or Dumb ^*^ Tanker as they were called in all my cav units, is that the First Sergeant will personally hand deliver your breakfast and dinner to you and your crew during Log Pac. You will never have to get off your vehicle for anything as you can rotate the turret and squat over the rear of the turret to relieve yourself. You also get a free pass on all barracks details which will be performed by scouts.

So be happy that you have chosen one of the most valuable professions in the army.

Scouts Out
