T-45 Goshawk replacement

The US Navy is planning to procure 216 new trainer aircraft to replace the T-45 Goshawk.

Navalized versions of the T-7 Red Hawk, KAI T-50 Golden Eagle, and Leonardo M-346 trainer have been offered for the Undergraduate Jet Training System (UJTS) program, and if the T-50 Golden Eagle is selected as the Navy's successor to the Goshawk, then it will be designated T-50A by the DoD because T-50A was reserved back in 2005 for the Golden Eagle in the event that this aircraft would be procured by the US armed forces.

Boeing and the Lockheed/KAI venture have withdrawn from the competition for a T-45 successor, leaving a Sierra Nevada Corporation-led team and a Leonardo-Textron consortium as the remaining bidders.
