Moscow, July 29 (UNI) Russian aviation firm Sukhoi, terming sale of military aircraft a ''political issue,' has announced its plans to increase its share in the global arms market.

''The Sukhoi company takes part in all international tenders, and if it does not win, this happens only for political circumstances, because a number of countries are traditionally oriented on American aircraft,'' Sukhoi holding company Director General Mikhail Pogosyan said.

''In 2003, the Sukhoi company held the 28th place in the rating of 100 leading companies in the world defence industrial complex and is at the third number in the list of global military aircraft producers and sellers after the American Lockheed, and Boeing, which supply the F-15 and F-18 fighter-bombers,'' he said at a press conference here yesterday, 'RIA Novosti' reported.

In the next few years, the Sukhoi company plans to preserve the amount of its annual export of military aircraft at the level of 1.2 to 1.5 billion dollars and further augment it, Mr Pogosyan said.

According to figures, the Sukhoi presently accounts for 14 per cent of the world production of aircraft, and by 2015, the figure is expected to rise to 16 per cent.

The export of Sukhoi military aircraft, including licensed and joint production, amounts to 25 per cent.
