The Tupolev company will perform the main work on the creation of a new generation airplane � a strategic missile carrier for Russia�s air force long-range aviation, they reported to Interfax-AVN at the defense industrial complex.
�Only one developer � OAO Tupolev � is taking part in the competition for drafts of a future long-range air force aviation complex (PAK DA) being held by military authorities,� the agency source noted.
According to him, �the preliminary technical task (TTZ) has been issued for development of the PAK DA at the present time.� �It still bears the most general nature. Many of the documentation�s points for the creation of the new missile carrier for Long-Range Aviation require refinement,� the agency source said, refusing to specify any kind of data regarding the PAK DA.
The program for creation of the new strategic bomber before 2015 will mainly bear a conceptual, research nature, which is connected with the definition of this airplane, the agency source noted.
Earlier, deputy commander of the 37th air army of the supreme high command (strategic), General-Major Anatoliy Zhikharev, reported to journalists that �the tactical and technical tasks for the development of a new strategic aviation complex for Long-Range Aviation, for which there will be no counterparts in the world, has been issued at the present time.�
He said that the scientific research and experimental design work (NIOKR) on this airplane already was included in the state defense order. �The necessary funds have been allocated from the state budget for the new generation airplane�s NIOKR,� the general specified. Touching on the PAK DA�s capabilities, A. Zhikharev emphasized that �this will be in principle a different aviation complex that the types of our aviation�s airplanes which exist now.� �This missile carrier will be able to take off from any airfields, including sod, carry nuclear and conventional precision weaponry (missiles and bombs) and overcome any air defense system. It will operate in any land and sea theatre of military activities, in any weather and climatic conditions,� the general emphasized.
A. Zhikharev noted that the airplane will be executed using �stealth� ((STELS)) technology. Speaking about the possible time frames for adopting this airplane into the inventory, General A. Zhikharev said that �usually, from the time of issuance of the TTZ until the time of the introduction of a new type airplane nearly 10 years passes.� �We hope that this time will be sustained by the conditions of uninterrupted financing,� the general added.
Answer an Interfax-AVN question, what group will develop the new generation airplane for Long-Range Aviation, General Zhikharev noted that it is planned to carry out the NIOKR on a competitive basis. �At the same time we think that the Tupolev design bureau, whose airplanes (the Tu-160, Tu-95MS and Tu-22M3 � IF-AVN) have made fine showing of themselves throughout years of service and where there is a highly profession group of designers and the necessary scientific base, will carry out the main work on the competition,� the general emphasized.
