Hi all,

Is that correct to call "assault fireteam" the team in a squad (section in english) which move...

Because for me, the adjective "fire" in "fireteam" refers to something like Base of Fire.

And similarly, can i say "supress fireteam" ?

That question seems perhaps a bit stupid but i would like to speak with exact words in my non-native language which is English.

Thank you very much.
Best regards,
squadtac

I'm not quite sure as to what you are suggesting, but I fail to see the need to add "assault" or "suppress". A fireteam is a fireteam.

Thank you!

Hi all,

Thank you very much Pathfinder-X for your answer.

A fireteam is a fireteam.
I understand that but my question is: for example, in an explanation, can i say:
> "supress fireteam" instead of "fireteam which supressing fire"
> "assault fireteam" instead of "firetaem which moves in"

I am only trying to see if it's correct to say that for english people. :unknown

I think I get what you mean. In Canada, each infantry section consists of 2 groups, composed of 2 fireteams each. One fireteam from each group is equipped with the C9 and thus provide fire support for the rest of the section.

See how a simple elaboration on your part clears it up for everybody?:)

We always did it by half sections (4 men) I suppose the terms you mention "suppression" and "assault" are ok....... So long as the people you are talking to know what you mean (the principles behind it)

Are you playing a computer game?

"supressing fire", "attack" and so on are commands that any fire-team should be able to carry out. The fire-team itself is a sub-set of a Squad. The Squad is about 10 or 12 men, the smallest group of Infantry recognized by most armies in the world.

A squad is part of a paltoon, and there are many types of Platoons. You can have Heavy Weapons platoons, where you find Heavy machine guns and mortars. Light infantry and Scouts do not have those, they have lighter weapons and have very different missions.

The place you are most likely to find the greatest emphasis on Fire-teams is in Special Forces, or Comandos, who often work in small (3 or 4 man) groups for stealth and secrecy. Scouts (recon) also operate this way in order to keep the maximun amount of territory under observation.

Basic infantry keep their fire-team tactics very simple. In a group of three teams, two might be called on to provide suppressing fire while the third leap-frogs past them to assault the enemy position, or to just get closer. This is just one example.

There is no need to use assault when having a fireteam since that is what a fireteam does, they assault.

Well one might be assaulting, The other may be providing suppression of the enemy position to allow the assault. Part of the whole "Fire and Manoeuvre" thing!

Well if you have more than one fireteam, then you generally call them elements (i.e. Alpha, Bravo, Charlie....) one may assault, the other may provide suppressive fire, and the other may serve various other tasks like communications, sniper cover, or even some transport.
