Will Brazil replace its aging US fighter jets with 12 Saab Gripen C/D from Sweden?

Brazil in negotiation for 12 Gripen as stop gap due to delay procurement and production of 35 Gripen NG. Budgetary reality means the plan induction of those Gripen NG will be push back several years. While F-5 even AMX already need replacement fast.

In my opinion even those 36 Gripen E/F can be delivered on new schedule, they still need used Gripen C/D to augment the capabilities left by AMX. Gripen E/F is more to replace their F-5. Remain to be seen how many C/D that Sweden willing to let go.

Perhaps Portugal might bring forward the replacement of the FAP F-16s and take up the slots due to the FAB budgetary delay. It has been suggested in reports following the sale of KC-390s to Sweden that this course of action might be under consideration. Time will tell.
