IAF has 50 Mi-17s in it's fleet this numbers will increase at they replace Mi-8s. In May 2000 India signed a contract for $170 million deal to buy additional 40 Mi-17 helicopters. They will be fitted with sixteen Vikhr-V (AT-16) anti-tank guided missiles.
An Mi-17 air-dropping supplies to army troops in the Siachen Glacier. Mi-17 were very active in providing close air support to the Indian Troops during Kargil war in 1999.
