Today, 14/06/2023, Rafael unveiled development of the SkySonic anti-hypersonic inteceptor.
The system has been in development for 3 years and will be presented in the Paris Air Show of 2023.
Capable of intercepting targets between 20-70km altitude, it has a higher reach than most air defense systems, and is said to be unique in its overall performance and incorporated technologies.
Rafael CEO Yuval Steinitz also said the David's Sling has a basic capability vs hypersonic munitions, but the SkySonic is built for this specific threat.
As some may know, IAI is currently developing the Arrow 4 missile, also with the task of defeating hypersonic munitions. It is not currently known whether the IDF will choose one specific system or again seek to have a technological and unique blend of both that will be distinct from the commercial variants.
