"Sargodha Air Base, located west of Lahore, hosts the Headquarters of the Central Air Command, one of three combatant air commands on the Pakistani Air Force. Aircraft currently based at this facility include two squadrons of General Dynamics F-16A fighters. The base is also the site of the Pakistan Air Force Combat Commander School. This fighter tactics and weapons school is the Pakistani equivalent of the American "Topgun" school at US Naval Air Station Miramar in California."

Airforces Monthly
Article in the May 1993 issue (pages 46-47 by Sergey Vekhov)
An article in the May 1993 issue (pages 46-47) of Airforces Monthly, a reputable UK-based air defence magazine, written by a Russian aviation writer, Sergey Vekhov, for the first time in public, provided a first-hand account about the PAF's pilots:

"As an air defence analyst, I am fully aware that the Pakistan Air Force ranks today as one of the best air forces in the world and that the PAF Combat Commanders' School (CCS) in Sargodha has been ranked as the best GCI/pilot and fighter tactics and weapons school in the world". As one senior US defence analyst commented to me in 1997, "it leaves Topgun (the US Naval Air Station in Miramar, California) far behind".

Jane's International Defense (June 24, 1998)

The PAF, although outnumbered by IAF, has at least one qualitative edge over its rival: Pilot Training. The caliber of Pakistani instructors is acknowledged by numerous air forces, and US Navy pilots considered them to be highly 'professionals' during exercises flying off the USS Constellation (as co-pilots).

i find pakistani pilots among one of the best air force pilots in the world, though many people might think of pakistan as another Iraqi or arab country without any tactics.. if the two force are put in a Scenario where both forces are using the same techonogy, my money will be on PAF pilots!

And what do you want this thread to become?
A discussion about what?
There is no question in your post and the articles have been posted here before.

I am getting a little tired of these this vs that threads and it is especially frustrating when the user opening the threads does not provide ANY personal input (technical or and outline of how user understands the weapon system/subject topic) on the topic whatsoever other than an open ended question or statement.

I guess we need rules on "this vs that" threads? Yes, only on DefenceTalk!

Here it goes, when opening "this vs that" thread, keep this in mind:

  1. -Provide YOUR OWN input, detail it and show that you've studied both (this and that) extensively
  2. -tell us WHY you think one is better than the other...
  3. -Use references to support your argument, if you can't find a reliable source then use wikipedia. Sorry. Don't merely rely on the references to make up your post.
  4. -Ask questions and put forth a detailed argument so that others are forced to reply to your opinion

I will add these to the rules page and more if I think of any. Enjoy!
