Lets not discourage people from posting but help them out with their questions and concerns. I'm sure we will all want to know and learn about these kits. :)

not trying to discourage him but the thread contains so few words and hardly seem worth opening an entire new topic for it.

and to answer the question of the thread, the britsh army use a load bearing system called Personal Load Carrying Equipment(PLCE), it has pockets for 6 clips of ammo, 2 grenade pockets and a strap to secure the combat knife. the webbing is design the be worn over the body armor.

when I was in the army I carried sardines, the odd piece of fruit and had all my clothes, not in the army supplied waterproof bag but in a trash bag and individual clothing in eithe trash bags or large ziplock bags, I also carried a book/magazine or two.

If I was going to just go out for guard duty or some other type of b.s Id carry a pair of 45lb weights My ruck would be so heavy Id have to put it on sitting, strap it down and then roll over to my side do a push up and then stand.

Some guys will bring gameboys, or hand held fishing or card games, some smart soldiers bring whole rolls of bunji cords or parachute riggers cord and make themselves hammocks, fishing nets dirty laundry holders, It totally depends, my unit prided itself on if your prepared to hump it you can keep it.

The smartest thing I ever saw anyone carry was a little german army oven the whole thing colapsed down to pocket sized and had these little fuel tablets, the guy actualy Cooked a MRE and a grilled/fried? a potato on it! , he would boil water in the morning so he could have a cup of cofee and have enough left over for shaving, when it cooled a bit he threw it in his pocket for a hand warmer.

Things were pretty much the same out bush, when I was in the Army. In the Infantrywe could take it out bush if we could carry it was the basic rule, (at least when I was the Section Commander...) I used a portable gas stove to cook with, the gas tubes were very small and lasted a fair while, plus it cooked very fast without burning the food, and heated water quickly for a brew. Much better than the stupid hexamine stoves we were supplied with. You had to cut the wax off the hexy tablets to get the damn things started!!! It was better when I was posted to the Armoured Regiment, we operated our M113 APC's as a recon troop and thus had the whole back of the car to carry extra stuff to make things a bit more comfortable. It was great working with my former infantry mates and sitting in a deck chair in our "harbour" drinking hot brews whilst they were digging in for the night...
