Indian Space Research Organisation would establish at the spaceport of Sriharikota a Rs 300 crore plant with a capacity to produce annually 2,500 tonnes of solid propellants that are used in launching satellites, ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair said on Saturday.

"The existing plant has a capacity to produce 500 tonnes per year. We have already awarded the contract. The new plant will come on stream in two to two-and-half-years. Investment will be close to Rs 300 crore," Nair said.

He also said the second launch pad at Sriharikota, some 80 km north of Chennai, built at a cost of Rs 400 crore, was ready and would be dedicated to the nation soon. "The maiden launch from there is slated for the first quarter of the coming calendar year."
