MiG-23 crashes, pilot killed

February 07, 2004

An Indian Air Force MiG-23 aircraft on Saturday crashed while participating in an exercise over Pokhran in Rajasthan, killing the pilot.

The crash occurred at 0930 IST when the plane was taking part in a 'range sortie', an IAF spokesman said.

A court of inquiry has been ordered to go into the causes of the accident, he said, adding the name of the pilot would be disclosed after his family is informed about the incident.

Which modern (in a sense) airplanes are prone to crashing?
:? :? I don't think there is such a plane which is "prone" to crashing. These technical malfunctions occur (if it was one). The cause could be any one of several factors. Age of the plane, quality of maintenance etc. So it can be any jet any where in the world which can malfunction and crash.

I wonder why the Pilot could not eject? At least if I was a MIG Pilot, i would always keep one hand on Ejection lever while flying.

There are 2 reasons, why the pilot did not eject;

1) Probably the pilot thought he could safe the plane.
2) The pilot panic.
