French Navy Air Force Computer Problem

Good day to all of you,

This weekend a friend of mine told me that the aircraft on the French Navy Carrier Charles de Gaulle were grounded on 15/16 January due to a computer malfunction. ( appearantly a Microsoft glitch caused by someone not updating the software). He couldn't give any sources ( He forgot which newspaper he read it from) so I was just wondering if he was making this up or did you guys hear anything about it?

Also, I know that Charles de Gaulle is going through a major overhaul ( I think it was suppose to finish by the end of december) but still the aircraft of it would be operating somewhere.

Thanks again and have a wonderful week,

If this is true then

imagine flying and the OHDs going blue :eek:nfloorl:

Microsoft and it's famous bugs/glitches

If the rafales are using a microsoft software tht itself is strange

:) I am assuming it will dificult to press CTRL+ALT+DEL while you are trying to hold the stick,

but the problem had something to do with the flight planner on board the aircraft.

I am browsing the news agencies to verify this as I told before but unfortunately I cant speak French and therefore cant go through the French newspapers.

Most NATO navies - save the USN - use "Windows-for-Warships" IIRC. That is based upon Windows 2000 (NT5.0), which Microsoft no longer support.

As an aside, XP is an NT5 kernel, as - though I may be "wrong" - is Vista. Hence Windows 7.0 is being ready for release. Give me a UNIX box any day...!;)

Anyway, off-topic, so I am off...!:D

Join the Club: Bundeswehr's network is also infected with Conficker worm.

Great next time: Code for Nuclear weapons found on lost USB-thumbdrives.

all data available about an armed force on a USB stick size of your thumb, it is a dream come to true for cold-war spies and the comtemporary ones.

So what happens with Battlestar Galactica is not far off, all the fleet can be switched off if you can have the proper virus infected to the system. ( Maybe not yet but in the near future)
