France Defence thread

France is expanding it's defence budget. The budget for 2024 - 2030 will be 400 Billion Euros, + additional 13 billion Euros "extrabudgetary revenues", so a total of 413 billion Euros for the period. The previous budget was 295 billion Euros so this is a significant increase.

Intelligence services will increase by 60 %, and military intelligence in particular by 100% (perhaps in part triggered by the massive French intelligence failure of assessing the situation in Ukraine before last year's full invasion?)

In addition, France will move to a 100% Rafale force.

Overseas territories will get increased surveillance capabilities, including drones.

The increased budget also provides for a "modernization of land forces, digitization of the battlefield, an increase in the power of frigates, the development of next-generation aircraft carriers, remotely guided munitions, and the expansion of the use of drones by doubling the budget".

All Rafale - but how many? Will they replace the remaining Mirage 2000 one for one? Most of the remaining Mirage 2000D were being upgraded to keep them in service past 2030, last I heard. If they're going to be retired earlier, either numbers of combat aircraft will reduce, or more Rafale will need to be built.
