Someone once told me that China has global positioning satielites (gps) is that true? What impact will it have on the armed forces? and how will it be used?

China launched its GPS satellite last year I believe in cooperation with EU's galileo system. This news was covered by various news outlets including financial times of UK. Do check wmd/strategic forum for that thread. :china

Thats great new for China, I hope India plans on geting a GPS stystem as well.
India joined the European Galileo GPS system last month in November along with China.

Will the two countries be able to use the GPS in military operations? I though China had its own GPS.
If it has (and I doubt it at this point) it would need to write a whole new run of code with different algorithms.dabrownguy said:
On top of that it doesn't have its own satellite infrastructure in place to deal with GPS at a global level
