ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Bahrain has constructed the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet.

Bahraini officials said the U.S. Navy chose a series of local contractors to construct the new $25 million headquarters for the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and Fifth Fleet. The project was completed in a recent ceremony at the Naval Support Activity Bahrain.

The project construct the 128,144 square foot structure was headed by the U.S. firm Contrack International. Contrack entered a joint venture with Bahrain's Abdullah Ahmed Nass Group, which supplied much of the labor and management.

"All of these projects are done by local companies," Capt. Chuck Chandonnet, building project manager for the Fifth Fleet, said. "Bahraini companies play an important part in the development of our facilities."
