Check out the shockwave bubble around the Hornet.The photograrher must have had a very good eye&reflexes or it was just " spur of the moment "luck

No, if you fly an aircraft above water, at super sonic speeds, you can see this effect, and it STAYS with the aircraft till it slows below mach 1, or it gets far away from the water.

I think its the moisture in the air. I've seen a video of an F-14 doing it.

The Bubble stays around the aircraft for as long as it flies over mach 1.

So the photographer probably had a whole minute in which to take pictures.

No Londo. The water vapous only appears at the moment the sound barrier is being broken...it disappears after the aircraft accelerates further.

"As a plane accelerates to just break the sound barrier, however, an unusual cloud might form. The origin of this cloud is still debated. A leading theory is that a drop in air pressure at the plane described by the Prandtl-Glauert Singularity occurs so that moist air condenses there to form water droplets."
