DTers,

Howdy. Looking for some book recommendations, especially from the Aussies/Kiwis on the board, since it's mainly coming from there part of the world (and how fortuitous it is that DT seems to have so many of them).

Area in question deals with Southeast Asia and Oceania; I'd like to try and punch up my knowledge about them over the next few months. I'd specifically like some books about Australia/New Zealand's relationship with the various countries of Oceania over the last 30 years or so, and also about Australia's efforts in World War 2, specifically in Papua New Guinea and the rest of the Pacific.

The recommendations I've had so far tend to be weighted towards dealing with the South China Sea issues (which I have a fair amount of familiarity with), but here's what I've got:

Some recommendations we got from the guys doing our RSEP class in preparation for it:

Bill Hayton: "The South China Sea: The Struggle for Power in Asia"

Robert Kaplan: "Asia Cauldron: The South China Sea and the End of a Stable Pacific."

Paul Theroux: "The Happy Isles of Oceania" (more for a cultural/social view)

Paul M. Handley: "The King Never Smiles"

Any recommendations from the good people of Defence Talk?
